Actor Woody Harrelson is as well-known for his affinity for cannabis as he is for his versatility on TV and in movies. He's currently starring in the Oscar-nominated "Triangle of Sadness," and the new sports comedy "Champions," about a prickly but charming basketball coach who finds himself leading a team of players with intellectual disabilities. Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz talks with Harrelson about fulfilling his dreams: both to inspire an audience, and to co-own a dispensary.

The weed thing was a really hard sell for the army in '70. They used to come around at Ft Benning and hold meetings and say "We don't want you guys smoking pot, 'cause it's bad for your health...oh, by the way, we're thinking of sending you to vietnam"....

"What we have here....is a lot of marijuana" 🤣🤣🤣 His delivery of that reminded me of Chris Farley's Matt Foley character.
  • I always like to hear about weed and productivity for people. I used to get high all day and get things done, but eventually it just got to the point where it made me too lazy and I had to cut it out. I also can't smoke in moderation for whatever reason. If I have it, I'm pretty much high until it's gone. I still smoke from time to time, but I don't keep it around anymore. I wish I could still be a stoner as an adult, but I have to be honest with myself and the truth is I like myself more when I'm sober. It's different for everyone, but I think for many people who aren't happy with their lives it's something that gets in the way of changing things. After I stopped smoking I got an English teaching certificate and now I'm a world traveller. Statistics are more important than individual stories, but I love my life right now and personally I was satisfied with with living in a mediocre way when I was high all the time. It took quitting to learn what possibilities were out there and to take action on one of them. Just some food for thought.

I started smoking weed at the age of 15. Got addicted for over years, but after trying out psilocybin treatment I will be 2 years clean.

Hes been a pioneer for legalization for years. Cannabis has helped me through depression and ptsd after watching my father commit suicide when I was 12. I didnt actually start smoking until a few years later. And literally dont know how I would of managed the depths of sorrow i was in without it. I've seen it work miracles also firsthand for people with seizures. But it does help with severe depression
  • He is one of the all-time greats, fantastic actor and probably human being.
