Great analysis! I personally wanted to see Battle Manuever as "Martial Magic" across the martials. 1. Superiority Dice is less spammy than Weapon Superiority. 2. Different classes can get different Manuecers 3. If martial player want something simple, they can use simple option such as Ambush (+ to either Initiative or Stealth) or Commending Pressence (+ to persuation check).

This was a very good video that put into words some of the warning bells I was feeling about WM. I would say nick is the least slowing while adding more options, it just is locked behind so few weapons. They most likely won't change WM since they made fighter revolve around it. They should of just made battlemaster part of the main class like everyone wanted.

I recognize the time issue, but the time to resolve spells has the same issue, except it isn't new. Part of what makes the casters more interesting to play is the versatility of spells and the colour of how they are applied. That is paid for in the game time they use and why the martials currently feel too simple as they currently resolve much more quickly. Add choice equals add time.
  • Great video! I’ve been on the “good idea bad execution” train about weapon mastery since the beginning, and it’s satisfying to hear the argument laid out so smoothly!

What I actually have is a weapon specialization feature where martials can pick weapons they wish to specialize in which has a variety of effects. For example someone specialized in using mauls may be able to push characters back if they fail a strength save and knock them prone if they fail two separate instances of this in a round. Edit: The idea is to make each weapon unique, and guve players specialized effects for various play styles.

So...per short rest you can use WM prof times? Can swap out a WM effect for +1d6 damage: easy for beginners. Prevents choice paralysis and style limits.

I disagree with you about how long it takes to resolve weapon mastery effects. Its attempts to hit, attack, effect, roll effect if needed plua damage roll. That takes less than 30 seconds. Adding options or effects will always add time. So its part of improving things as martials dont have much options. Time management is more of a players thing aka not making quick decisions in real life, slowing down game play.
