  • 😥 they didn’t realize that gimley is legolases friend from the first franchise and he just met his dad here

‘That’s my wee lad, Gimli’ Ya’ll had no reaction to that? Gimli! The main dwarf from LORD OF THE RINGS!?
  • @qburns2035
Keep in mind Smaug was considered a small dragon. The largest Dragon in LoTR lore was Ancalagon, which was the size of a whole mountain.

Note that the Elves in Mirkwood (the creepy forest) aren’t exactly evil, just very territorial. Elves generally don’t like Dwarves anyways and the elves of Mirkwood are used to living alone in their area without any trespassers. So when for the first time in ages someone sneaks into their land without them knowing and it’s also dwarves, they get pretty annoyed.
  • Regarding your question about Dwarves having a bad reputation: Elves and Dwarves have a long, complicated history. Much of that history is acrimonious, but some of it was cooperative and productive. So, many Elves don't trust Dwarves, and vice versa. The bromance between Legolas and Gimli in The Lord of the Rings is a rare moment between these two races where they both overcame their distrust of one another.
  • Also...Balin, Ori, and Oin, are seen in LoTR, Fellowship, in the mines of Moria...just not alive unfortunately. If you remember when Gimli ran crying to Balin's tomb.
  • The Hobbit would be an excellent book to read to your kids when they get a little older 😃

    J. R. R. Tolkien was an absolutely amazing creative writer, the thought and research he put into the lore of the world and remolded it is mindboggling. And the fact that he took his real life experiences from WW1 and synthesized with his books makes it all the more awe inspiring. I am so thankful they made these movies. Your reactions are a joy to watch!
  • Remember when comparing HP to LOTR films: 17 Oscars for LOTR trilogy and ZERO for the EIGHT HP movies
  • the reason the ring had less of an effect on bilbo then frodo is because. bilbo did not know the ring was the one ring of power and the ring grew in power as sauron grew in in power the ring was part of the dark lord as the dark lord was part of the ring and as the ring came closer to mount doom it grew more powerful as well.

Fun fact: as far as Lord of the Rings lore goes, Smaug was on the less impressive side of the dragon scale. By this time in Middle Earth's history there were practically no dragon's left and those that were left, like Smaug, paled in comparison to the power of the dragon's that existed in the early days.

It makes me happy to hear your praise for this trilogy. It doesn’t deserve all the hate it gets from some of the fandom. Is it as good as LOTR? I don’t think so. But it’s still good, and for someone like me who grew up with the 70s animated version of The Hobbit, it was really cool to see a fresh take on the story with modern effects and filmmaking techniques.
  • @Liofa73
Legolas had his first view of his LOTR mate Gimli in the photograph. :)
  • Aw yeah. This was the best out of the trilogy. Benadryll Cucumberpatch absolutely killed it as Smaug.
  • "The Hobbit" is only a prequel in terms of the movies. J.R.R. Tolkien wrote "The Hobbit" for his own children in the 1930s. It caught the eye of a publisher and became a best seller. Twenty years later he surrendered to public demand for a sequel and wrote "The Lord of the Rings" in the mid 50s. Bilbo is the main character because the book was the story of his adventure.
  • How did y’all not realize the picture was gimli??? Lol
  • @MrYoup11
The views in New Zealand where both series were filmed are incredible, the set of the Village of Hobbiton is a must see tourist attraction. Funny you getting upset about having to wait for the next one, at least you don't have a year for it to come out in Theaters.
  • I always loved "The Hobbit" BECAUSE it's not the same epic story as LOTR (which, of course, I also love). It's more of a personal journey where Bilbo goes from a bumptious, portly, gentleman, fond of his comforts, to one who discovers his own strengths and surprises everyone, even himself. And learns what he's fighting for. Though Tolkien denied any influence, "The Hobbit" was written before WW2 and LOTR after, and its impossible not to draw parallels with that conflict, and others to this day. Hobbits, imo, represent ordinary people drawn into global affairs despite themselves, while the other groups are uneasy allies warring with a common foe.

The king of the wood elves, Thranduil, pretty much has every reason to hate dwarves. There's a huge backstory in one of the books but long story short: the dwarves were supposed to make a necklace that contained a powerful gem for the daughter of the King at the time. They decided they should keep the necklace. The King insulted them for this so they killed the king, splintering the elven kingdom. I believe Thranduil was just a boy when all of this happened. And this began dwarves being known for their greed.
