Cars Movie Description:

The film features an ensemble voice cast of Owen Wilson, Paul Newman (in his final voice acting theatrical film role), Bonnie Hunt, Larry the Cable Guy, Tony Shalhoub, Cheech Marin, Michael Wallis, George Carlin, Paul Dooley, Jenifer Lewis, Guido Quaroni, Michael Keaton, Katherine Helmond, John Ratzenberger and Richard Petty, while race car drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. (as "Junior"), Mario Andretti, Michael Schumacher and car enthusiast Jay Leno (as "Jay Limo") voice themselves.

Set in a world populated entirely by anthropomorphic talking cars and other vehicles, it follows a hotshot rookie race car named Lightning McQueen (Wilson) who, on the way to the biggest race of his life, gets stranded in Radiator Springs, a rundown town that's past its glory days, and learns a thing or two about friendship, family, and the things in life that are truly worth waiting for.

Development for Cars started in 1998, after finishing the production of A Bug's Life, with a new script titled The Yellow Car, which was about an electric car living in a gas-guzzling world with Klubien writing. It was announced that the producers agreed that it could be the next Pixar film after A Bug's Life, scheduled for a 1999 release, particularly around June 4; the idea was later scrapped in favor of Toy Story 2. Shortly after, production was resumed with major script changes. The film was inspired by Lasseter's experiences on a cross-country road trip. Randy Newman composed the film's score, while artists such as Sheryl Crow, Rascal Flatts, John Mayer and Brad Paisley contributed to the film's soundtrack.

Cars premiered on May 26, 2006, at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina and was theatrically released in the United States on June 9, to generally positive reviews and commercial success, grossing $462 million worldwide against a budget of $120 million. The film received two nominations at the 79th Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature, but lost to Happy Feet (but won both the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature and the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film). The film was released on DVD on November 7, 2006, on VHS in limited quantities on February 19, 2007, and on Blu-ray on November 6, 2007. The film was accompanied by the short One Man Band for its theatrical and home media releases. The film was dedicated to Joe Ranft, the film's co-director and co-writer, who died in a car crash during the film's production.

The success of Cars launched a multimedia franchise and a series of two sequels produced by Pixar and two spin-offs produced by Disneytoon Studios, starting with Cars 2 (2011).

RIP Paul Newman, voice of Doc Hudson. As a NASCAR fan for most of my life, I cannot tell you how HYPED the opening to this movie makes me feel. The classic sights, sounds, camera angles, fans, etc. THEY EVEN BROUGHT IN THE ACTUAL NASCAR BOOTH ANNOUNCERS! They made a real love letter to racing here and I can't get enough of it.

Bilingual bonus: when Guido is yelling at the other forklifts, he's saying "Who do you think you're talking to, huh? Who are you talking to?" The Ferrari says to Guido "I hope your friend gets better. I was told y'all are fantastic."
  • as a mexican whose family works on low riders, my family loved the low rider w a classic Chicano accent! It was appreciative and not appropriation, in my opinion.
  • @SuburbanSavage
Fun fact: Paul Newman (Doc Hudson) was delighted that for his final film role, he got to play a car, as he was an avid race car driver.
  • @jeepnutscotty
The Ferrari in the tyre shop was voiced by the legendary Michael Schumacher, the #43 car the King was voiced by the King himself Richard Petty, tons of celebrity cameo voice overs in these movies

Cow tipping is actually a myth mainly made by how city folk think country folk act. In fact, it's kind of impossible. Cows can in fact can get up on their own, they don't sleep standing, they're so heavy you can't tip them with even a stronger human body, and they can get mad and hurt you.

I'm going to need you to understand how important the number 43 is in Nascar (and how it relates to this movie). 43 belongs to Richard Petty. The reason it's important they included it, and in Nascar, is that he won 200 races between 1960 and 1984. His career ended in a crash (as did the 43 in this movie). Furthermore, the voice of 43 IS Richard Petty. And yes, that was Mario Andretti, although I don't know why he was there in the first place... He was an Indy driver. Also, those 'car bugs'... They're all Volkswagen. Literally VW "Bugs".
  • @SOA_yt
My personal interpretation on why he didn't finish the race - he didn't want a win where one of the other racers was in such a horrible state. It's like if you were running a race against someone who broke his foot, that wouldn't feel like a win. It actually seems to happen in a sports irl, people help their competitors before crossing the finish line. Another assumption is that he didn't want The King to go last. If he had finished the race and then helped him, The King would've been 3rd place. McQueen decided to end up last because he has many more races in his future anyway, but that was The King's last race.
  • 27:59, the fire truck "Red" is emotional because the person who was supposed to voice act him died in a car crash before they could record his lines. And they didnt want to re-cast the voice, as he had worked for Pixar for years as an animator, voice actor, director and writer. Cars was the last movie he co-directed and co-wrote, which is why his name also appears at the end of the movie "Dedicated to Joe Ranft".

As a car guy that has driven parts of route 66 this movie is honestly hard to watch, so many towns and peoples livelihoods were taken away with the Interstates going through. It's sad driving through the towns that are left, so much history gone or boarded up, or dilapidated beyond repair. There is a really good history of Doc someone did on youtube, worth a watch as well.
  • I’ve never really understood why this movie gets so much hate. I mean, sure, it’s not as good as Pixar’s best movies like The Incredibles or Ratatouille, but it’s still really good. The movie tells a unique story from Pixar’s usual catalog, focusing on the history of the American motorways and putting that in its own universe. The characters are generally pretty good and iconic, Lightning McQueen’s character arc is really good, the world building is flawed but definitely interesting, the score slaps and making things personal for a second, this might be the first movie I ever watched (or at least the first one I can remember, this was probably around 2007) so it’s always been a little bit special in that way.
  • @MrRSCHECK
What I liked about the movie is how it was historically accurate about Route 66 and when it was bypassed for the new Freeway system. Many of the small towns/businesses on Route 66 went under. You can look up the history about Route 66 pretty easily and it's still in existance.
  • @ShilohSmith
Just hit us real hard with the nostalgia at the beginning with the old dvd fast play menu 😭
  • @amyjordan195
The Rusteze guys were the hosts of a radio show called Car Talk. Brothers who helped diagnose and fix cars. They ended every show with "Don't drive like my brother".
  • @HygorBH
Yes, The King was voiced by Richard Petty, a NASCAR legends. The racing commentators were voiced by their real-life counterparts. Paul Newman, Doc's VA, was also a NASCAR racer. Fun fact, The King was literally modelled after Petty's car that he used during his races; a blue 1970 Plymouth Superbird stock car.
  • @eyediealone1258
"Race cars dont need headlights cause the track is always lit." "Yeah well so is my brother but he still needs headlights".
  • @JUMPYCOOL
A little fun fact I learned about: McQueen’s old pit crew chief who claims that his name isn’t Chuck is actually listed as “Not Chuck” in the credits!
  • It’s hard to find the right words to describe how much this movie meant to me as a child. I remember seeing cars the day it came out and I was obsessed from the start.
  • @nicolasbaron4506
I genuinely love this movie. Not the best from Pixar but it’s definitely one of those films that I loved to watch over and over again. I also was a huge Cars nerd back when I was a kid as I had a lot of merchandise from the film.
  • This was my all time favorite movie growing I had the toys, the clothes, and I remember one year for Halloween I wore a Lightning McQueen racing suit also Dale Earnhardt Jr 8, Mario Andretti, Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Artie Kempner, and Michael Schumacher who was the red Ferrari finally R.I.P to Paul Newman who voiced Doc Hudson 🙏🏽
