I’d been accustomed to thinking that most men are sex-crazed, but my boyfriend said, “If there’s something to learn about my love language (physical touch) is that sex isn’t the most important thing to me. What’s most important is that I know a woman cares and gives a damn about me…you show and tell me that every day even when we’re apart” Another time I was telling him how I’d like to spoil him and he said “I already feel spoiled by the love and attention you give me” I was actually shocked because I thought I was doing basic stuff, but for him it was much more than that. I knew that he was used to more abusive/toxic behavior in previous relationships, but that emphasized it even more! In my more masculine days lol, I was that woman who’d think “Umm he’s got all these women complimenting him…he knows he looks good, so I don’t need to say it. I don’t want to pump his head up too much!” 🤦🏾‍♀️ Now I’m never too far from complimenting my boyfriend & showing appreciation! 😍 The other day, I wasn’t feeling well, he asked if there’s anything I needed. I reluctantly asked to be taken to the grocery store (I know his days are busy with 2 jobs). He readily agreed, gave me a time to be ready by. I was soo appreciative lol he looked so sexy carrying my water & bags to my apartment 🙈 I had to let him know and thank him again for setting time aside for me 🙌🏾 he’ll say “You done lovin’ on me woman?” I’m like “Never! 😍🤗”

It’s not that complicated…if a man truly wants you he will show it pretty quickly..I spent nearly 3 years living with a man who wasn’t sure about our future..I left that relationship..I met my man and within 2 months he proposed..he said he he knew I was his dream girl the night that he met me…he told his best friend that he will marry me. I recently began complimenting him- telling him he's good looking, intelligent, and why I like him so much (his best qualities). He's loving it. I don't think he has heard that much in his life. I've noticed he's opening up with his emotions a lot more now, and the compliments from him are becoming deeper and more meaningful.

All points that you have made were extremely insightful and well-spoken, Stephan. However, the excerpt about vulnerability really stuck out to me. As a clinical therapist, I see many individuals who have experienced diverse traumas both inside and outside of relationships which has impacted the ability to let down guards and/or challenge learned defense mechanisms. Until we are able to completely unpack our own baggage—as distinct and painful as it may be, we will not be able to truly engulf in that form and level of intimacy. Vulnerability=intimacy and intimacy is what a lot of relationships appear to be starved of. Thank you for your insight, as always. ❤️
