Making Shiitake Mushroom Logs A shout out the North Spore Mushroom for a great looking product.

I took down three small diameter trees. One Black Hickory, two Post Oak, cut them up into 4' lengths, then drilled a measured "pilot run" of one inch deep holes with a 5/8 paddle bit blade, then I drilled the remainder diagonally to each previous line to form a diamond shaped banding around the circumference of the log. I placed the 5/8ths by 1" pegs of shiitake spawn in each hole. I, then, sealed off each hole with parts fun wax left over from my former candle business. I will place the logs under the shade in my pine stand. We will see how it goes.
