It's an era mash-up! After going down a rabbit hole on Pinterest, I just couldn't resist combining this Grace Kelly dress and an 18th-century style. Oh, and a 1880's Treadle Sewing Machine!
What do you think?!

I’d like to point out that: You DID in fact do it in 24 hours. It was just spread across two days. 😁
-
I would have killed for that dress in 1963 when I was 18. Its timeless, really.
-
I would love to see more mash ups! There are so many interesting eras that you could do a little spin on, and it’s a totally unique idea! This dress turned out absolutely stunning and the silhouette is so flattering. Also your meticulous sewing and bubbly energy is (especially during these uncertain times) a joy to watch.
-
It turned out so nice! You should totally make a pattern that we can purchase.
-
Compliments for two things: The idea of combining the two styles. Loved the design and the fabric. And I admire you for your willpower to see this through. It was not an easy project that you gave yourself. You could have chosen something easy like a circle skirt. I love the final result. You look so cute in that dress.
-
My goodness that sewing machine makes the most satisfying sound
-
A challenge is just that: a challenge. You were challenged to make a dress in a day, but you made it in two! Like you said, you now have a beautiful, high quality dress forever!
Personally, I’d rather see you make clothes than do make up! (But historical hairstyles are always welcome!) I would love to see you make an outfit that is “wearable” out and about, but has its roots in some era in history: the Edwardian or Regency or the 50’s, etc. History bounding? ☺️ -
As someone who is completely obsessed with both colonial and 50’s era styles, this dress makes me happier than words can express. I’m just starting out sewing, but when I get better (and have more confidence altering patterns), I’m DEFINITELY going to make this.

I love this era mashup! I'd love to see more, maybe an early Edwardian/Roman Holiday mashup could be fun!
-
This dress is such a dream. So pretty and timeless!
-
Love this dress! I love the structured bodice and the care and attention that went into making it. If you were so inclined i would 100% buy the pattern for this were you to sell it!
-
Historical accuracy is such a chimera. Glad that you went your own way. Beautiful.
-
Lovely dress... I may just make a Kirtle in a 4 day challenge because I hand sew no 1 day challenges for me.
-
My Dad was a re-enacter and taught me this technique. It make pleats so easy and even.
-
The cap sleeves definitely look more elegant. Elegant is a word I associate with both 18th century clothing AND Grace Kelly.
I've done 1/8 inch cartridge pleating by hand, but fork pleats sound much better. -
This dress is so, so beautiful. I always love watching makers put on their creations at the end of these videos and see their joy shine and this was a perfect example of that. You looked so proud of yourself and it is so well deserved. I can’t imagine making such an involved dress in one day or even trying to- it takes me a whole day to cut out pre-made patterns! The process and this dress are phenomenal!
-
Beautiful work!
-
The pleats on this thing, oh my goodness. ❤💕
-
What a delightful fusion! I can't believe you did it on just three days. My projects take months and aren't nearly so cute. You're a pro.
-
Along with everyday priorities, and how detailed your dress is three days is good. Great job!
