Kamala Harris is due to make her first public appearance since President Biden withdrew from the election and endorsed her to replace him as candidate for the presidency.

The vice-president will speak on the South Lawn at the White House at 4.30pm UK time on Monday (11.30am in Washington) at an event to celebrate the 2023-24 National Collegiate Athletic Association championship teams.

A succession of elected Democrats and potential rivals have endorsed Harris to become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, paving the way for a coronation even as some senior party figures press the case for a “mini-primary”.
