Thermoworks Dot FIXED (mostly) Video #2

I was about to put a roast in the oven when I dragged the Dot thermometer off the kitchen counter and it hit the floor right where the probe plugs in. The internal solder connections for the plug are delicate and broke- resulting in a NO PROBE reading. I swapped out the probe with one from another Dot to confirm it wasn't just the probe that was bad. It was definitely a connection problem inside the main unit.

Although I'm not a soldering wiz I was able to melt the solder and reestablish the two broken connections and get the unit to recognize the probe. I then covered the internal plug unit with epoxy to lock it in place. Now it works MOST of the time, but if I fiddle with the probe connection is does cut out occasionally. Most of the time it works fine.

The upshot of this experience is to always plug the thermometer in AFTER you have placed the meat with the probe into the cooking device. DON'T put dishes into or take them out with thermometer unit attached!
