  • With all of the rain we've all had, especially you, I'm happy for you that you've had these high tunnels. Your onions look perfect. I doubt you'd have had any if they had been outside.

I wish we could share photos here. My Egyptian walking onions are going completely bonkers this year too. Ive never seen them as big and lush as they are this spring. The Japanese bunching onions are huge too. I grow them mainly for seed so I can have sprouts in winter. But I planted out a handful of their seedlings last winter and they are also just perking along. I have about 200 seedling ready to go out of this type. I also put out last fall, about 10 of each to propagate seeds for the white Lisbon bunching(we love ❤ love green onions/ scallions), and the Alisa Craig sweet onion and the zebruune banana shallots. I'm in love with the zebruune shallots. They are a grow from seed only shallot(I think they are a cross of shallots and onions) and they are the best storage onions/shallots I've ever grown. I have about a dozen in my storage that are still firm without showing signs of sprouting. I cut one open the other day for an omelet and they are just as tasty as when I first tried them last fall. But downside, the seed I bought this year was awful. It barely germinated and I'll be lucky to get 50 out of 2 packets. Normally I'd put it down to user error but every other onion/chive I started is doing fantastic. Several other youtubers growers have had the same issue, so I'm thinking its just a bad year for those seeds. I might plop the last bulbs of them out into a bed(they are on the smaller side) and cross fingers for a good flush of bloom and seed for myself along with the other 10 I've already got planted. Our garlic is also going completely bonkers this year. Some of the necks are bigger round than my hubbies thumb, I'm hoping this means a nice harvest of bulbs. I even bought elephant garlic to try again as your elephant garlic is so gorgeous. It is huge! At the moment only peas and onions/garlic and lettuce and turnips and beets and radishes are out. Its so cold this spring. It actually snowed yesterday a few big fluffy flake in with the little ice ball looking ones. Not quite hail but not quite snow. My mother teased me anout having onions and garlic just everywhere and all I could say was. I might have a tiny problem lol but they just are growing so nice for me.
