I am not even 40 yet, so I dont know exactly how it feel seeing old friends after 40 year long, but I know it is something really precious. They didnt gather for just having fun or good food, they gathered to recall their memories ( 40 years back in the CAMP). As Kyle said, they are adults, they have their families and might not have something like it more often, but one thing for sure, this memory will bring up smiles when they think of it.

I think when you go through an experience that's as traumatic and unique as these guys have it creates a bond like no other. I'm so glad they found each other!

I came to the U.S at the age of 12 back in 1975, having bounced from Subic Bay to Guam to Camp Pendleton to Fort Chaffee and finally settled in Southern Louisiana. Those folks resemble the exact cycle that i have traveled. It's good to see them assembled and celebrated this historic day. Thank you Kyle.

Love the bond that never breaks....Asian families or friends that have that bond is so special...the only down fall is always EAT EAT EAT
  • It might be a small world, but if any of the refugees were in a Hong Kong camp, i would like to ask a few questions. I was maybe 6-7 years old at the time, I was in a refugee camp in Hong Kong for a very short time between 1980-1981...I met a friend. He would have a bag of car toys and he always let me get the first pick. The car toy was a pulled back and release you...the car would go forward. The day that I left to America, I went by his camp to say goodbye, but he wasn't there. If you are reading this, I want to say thank you for the toys and standing up for me. Hopefully we can meet again. The Hong Kong refugee camp was near a lighthouse...maybe once a week they had an outside movie area. I was in an apartment. The basement was the cooking area...walking to my friend's camp...I had to past a sewer. The sewer is where we would make boat out of bamboo leaf and watch it go out to the sea. We had a few friends that day making bamboo leaf boat.

Next year will be 25 years of knowing my best friend. I can't imagine such a gap between seeing people who literally survived with you to make it to a new place unknown to all of them. The first story really touched me, that quest to know each other again and I had hoped that it would open the door to find others, and it did! Love that they got to spend such invaluable time together and hopefully it's only just the beginning.
  • Kyle thank you for your amazing channel. I am a daughter of a Vietnamese refugee. I grew up in the USA and have always loved watching your channel as it helps me understand more what it means to be Vietnamese and just feel connected. Thank you Kyle! I currently live in Thailand
