Truly that world under water is fascinating! But I'm content to see it through you divers. I haven't lost anything down there. Thanks for showing it.

You’re the first person I’ve heard identify particular shark movements as what’s actually a pretty sophisticated strategy. Good on you for identifying that specific movements were designed to separate the divers and the swims overhead to prevent any from going to the surface. So, the shark knew the creatures he was dealing with go to the surface to escape. Who said sharks were dumb. *The shark’s pectoral fins were completely straight out when it swam at the guide. After he punched it, its fins went down into attack position. Don’t get me wrong, I would’ve pushed it away, too, as it was coming at his head, but I’m not so sure it was going to attack him.

Fantastic to see how you handled that. Very educational for any divers that might find themselves in that same situation. Thank you!!!

Terrific video and man, those Oceanic White-Tips are formidable creatures and if I'm not mistaken, this was the species that attacked one of the divers a few years ago while bottom feeding sharks and had his/her bait in a sack wrapped around the waist and behind her.  The shark realized this is where the bait is and went for the sack ending up biting a rather large chunk out of the rear-end cheek of that diver.  I remember this story as if it was yesterday since I'm from that area and keep up with this sort of thing, hoping someday to dive all the amazing reefs of the Red Sea.  Thanks for sharing that.  I bet that video of the attack is posted somewhere here on YT.

The shark did not attack Aly. It came down to have a look and possibly followed the trail of bubbles. If it was attacking him that arm would have been gone.

Wow, great video Johan...your voice wasn't that calm when you got on board the boat :-) he he he. Next time you have got any tips about sharks being attracted to yellow fins, feel free to share it before we all jump in, that wasn't something I was aware of Great work, thanks for doing this for everyone, much appreciated. Are you able to extract still images from your video footage at all? Best wishes, Neil

I've been to Elphinstone with Emperor Divers three times and never saw a longimanus. You were lucky!
  • @buchpetzer
It can be quite frightening when they close in on you and circle around you
  • Almost every diving trip in Egypt I see at least 1 longimanus. I wish I weren’t so lucky cus anyway it’s a bit frightening when a 2,5+ m longimanus circling around you)))
  • @ken244
Basically an oceanic bull shark, extremely dangerous in my opinion

Nice trailer for Jaws V :) Hele mooie beelden, Johan. En prachtig commentaar, truly the David Attenborough of the low lands!
  • @Chrisle6969
Wow! I was there last year & hope to see one...but no luck

Inquisitive longimanus hardly attacking here, allthough one killed a Duch snorkeler a few years ago-after being provoked.

I have had my share of shark experiences underwater. In the Bahamas (Tiger Beach), the sharks would follow us around on every dive, even the non shark feeding ones. The key is awareness. If you face the shark and demontrate to him that you're not an easy meal, you'll be fine. I did have to shove one away one time when he got to close. After that he kept his distance.

A little 4' long trident would work with a poke in the nose. They are a combination of caution and aggression. I wonder how they would deal with a big fur seal that could bite back?
  • @JS-qg1ie
I Think you need to boost your red filter, it’ll. make the colours more vibrant underwater.
  • @damow7390
Because the SMB is red maybe...I am going to BCD next month, really afraid, cause I habe red fins and red wing!
