  • Such a well-rounded review. I love your channel you have a great way of explaining what works vs what does not work. I love how your daughter also shared her thoughts as well.
  • I have always wondered about this program. Thanks for sharing your daughter’s opinion as well!

Thank you so much for this very helpful review. I appreciate hearing the pros AND cons:)
  • @keeperofmyhome
Woohoo!! I’ve heard so much of this book! Thank you for this video!!👏🏽💕
  • Great review! Thanks! I totally agree with representation. I’d like to know what program or method did you supplement with or replace. Is there an updated program out there that’s more inclusive with relevant stories?
  • @JulianeBella
Waoo this is interesting. I was an ELL in elementary and I thank my ability to read to the distar method and the intervention teacher I had of course. I went from 0 English to being able to decode new words in any book in just 1 year.
  • I could have given the same review myself. 🤣 Started it (very minimally) with my daughter when she was about 4 1/2. She’s 6 now and at lesson 70 something. I agree that I liked the script, I liked the order and progression of teaching, I liked the structure. But now my major cons are being boring, also sometimes the stories are a little odd (which can be a pro if daughter thinks they’re funny), and I really wish they’d introduce capital letters sooner!! No reason not to. So, we’ll probably still use it loosely but this past year we’ve been supplementing with library books and fun reading apps and games.

Love how you explained your review. It wasn't best for us and boring and not fun
  • I would love a few would focus a video or more on teaching reading to children who are older. My son has dyslexia. Very severe. He is 13 and still working on the basics. Many of the reading programs Et cetera focus on the little kids and are so baby ish that he doesn't like them. Any resources you could find that are made for teens struggling to learn to read would be greatly appreciated

I reallllly can't get my head around the rhyming task 😬

Without knowing its meaning, latching on to, repeating or asking questions about the most annoying/inappropriate portion of a book or movie is my kids superpower. I feel like I should stay away not only bc of representation but because it seems the reading portions are unnecessarily mean. Calling people fat, bad singers, kids being mean to dogs, blind hunters with gun. My 4 yr old doesn't even know what a gun is yet.
