"Its not my hope its my Duty" - wise words from a wise commander.

For those who haven't kept up with naval news, it might interest you to know that Admiral Paparo, the one interviewed aboard Nimitz, is now the next nominee for Chief of Naval Operations. He was even nominated for the job instead of the current Vice Chief of Naval Operations, likely because of his experience commanding the Pacific Fleet. If you're concerned about how things might go down with China, then make sure you listen to what he says he needs, and push your Congressional reps to support it.

Military isn't everything, but it feels really good to be an American citizen with an incredible military like this providing support at all times. The logistics and everything needed to support this stuff is crazy, and America has been operating like this for decades.

Seldom does the American public hear from a military leader who expresses such a well balance of honesty and confidence. His leadership and advice should bear great weight in the decisions of the future. He reminds me of old school military leaders who speak very matter of factly. God bless all of Americas service personal.

I would think that the Navy also needs to look at pricing from these contractors. Because it's been shown that they overprice and take advantage of the government OFTEN!

Good luck commander, the crew and ship. Thank you for your services.

When I lived in Kodiak it reminded me of a snow globe stuck in the 70's. They had a fish cannery that was built out of an old navy destroyer I believe. The cannery is called trident

Both my kids are in the US military, one in the Navy. One of the problems the military is facing is manpower. Military recruitment is at a multi decade low. I spoke with a recruiter about a year ago and he said most candidates either fail the ASVAB test and/or the medical screening due to obesity/drugs. On top of that the Army and Navy have failed miserably in their marketing campaigns. They followed the same path as Bud Light. Backlash is not as bad as BL, but it seems to have a sufficient impact to reduce recruitment even further. The sign-on bonus for Navy nuclear technicians for the upcoming cycle is $75,000. Two years ago it was $38,000. It shows you how desperate they are. We might have great military equipment, but without the people it means nothing. There is a people problem that needs to be fixed.
  • The submarine just ‘happened’ to be steaming on the surface at close quarters during the interview. What a coincidence. 😂

Love the segment on "just Rocco". As presented, he seems like a really decent guy.

Thanks for such an informative interview. This Admiral restores my confidence in our Navy. You can see the confidence he has not only within himself but with his crew. God Bless this man and the men and women on board the USS Nimitz.

Except when his answers were classified, his answers were SHORT and CLEAR. YES, and NO, and WATCH OUT. God that was refreshing.
  • Depending on how you calculate frontline warship by size and armament, the US navy has fewer ships but 2-3 times the tonnage of the Chinese navy and 2.5 times the VLS cells used to contain ship launched missiles. The Chinese navy is in the middle of its modernization, not the end. This gap will shrink rapidly in the next decade rounding out in a peer force in 2045-2050.
  • Thank you for the news about china and US A Navy,Keith ; that did excite me !
  • The Chicoms has grown fast and this may be a problem when the overhaul logistics gets crowded. Some deep water ports and those up river channels are juicy targets. What’s also interesting is some of those ports have negative reputations
