Repotting a Sad Aloe Plant

Published 2023-01-18
Repotting an aloe plant. This aloe has been underpotted for a long time, was pulling it's pot over, so I got it repotted into a larger heavier pot that won't tip. I also spent some time discussing proper cactus potting mixes.

Thank you I think I've got the answer to this Aloe I bought at a vintage store. Doesn't look so good but I'm gonna take your expertise and hopefully, it will come back to life!😊😊
  • Thanks so much for these kind of videos !!! Need all help can get , new plant mom 👩🏼
  • @lurphette
I also have a sad, wonky aloe plant 😂 it’s been a few years as well. I’ll be repotting it this weekend, so this video was exactly the help I need!
  • Thank you Jeff ! Hope to see you on Saturday. Be safe ,stay healthy and as you say have a great rest of your week ! ❄️💚🙃
  • Just what I needed today! Vertigo has been really bad these past couple weeks but last night did me in & I’m home in bed
  • @cynsim
I had to laugh at you worrying about how your aloe looks. I wish you could see what mine looks like. It's an alien reaching out to escape its confinement.
  • Been hunkering down since my move to Ohio. Got my polytunnel put up a few weeks ago, and today made a compost bin and got some pots ready for winter sowing starting tomorrow. Pleasantly surprised at my bitter orange tree which has taken some pretty brutal temps(0F) and winds for its first time ever. See you on Saturday, I've got some tiny pink aloe(name escapes me) I need to repot, but they aren't trying to escape quite yet! 😋
  • @asha8443
That variegation on the aloe looks stunning..
  • I save bamboo chopsticks and use them as steaks because sometimes you don’t want some big Long things sticking out of a pot. I don’t know if that would be too small in this case. Keep us posted on Medusa! 😊

Could you cut the stem back to a straight section so you can plant it center of the pot?
  • This is awesome. Mine looks similar to yours. I would've showed you a picture of it but I cant post pictures.

I’ve got a bromeliad that grew crooked and bent at a funny angle like your aloe been working repotting to grow more upright
  • My brother is moving back to Wisconsin in April, I guess you could say they are snow birds maybe, they move to Arizona for the winter months and have been unfortunately stuck down there through summer last year because of his cancer treatments. Anyway we have the opportunity to visit them in Arizona before they go back to Wisconsin, I really want to go because they say that a lot of cactus bloom there in March and I feel this is probably the last opportunity we’re going to get to visit Arizona with free room and board. With the cost of everything going up so much, social security doesn’t go very far so if we can go now its probably the time, because who knows what next year will bring. Anyway so looking forward to seeing Arizona, I LOVE to travel but haven’t had much opportunity to so I’m thinking it’s now or never. ❄️💚🙃

Hi Jeff! I like the wonkiness of your "Medusa" aloe. It has character! ;-) It will be fun seeing how it's doing in a few months. I like the pretty pot you had it in. Is it a Talavera pot? The new pot is pretty, too. Thank you so much for sharing!
  • I would love to try and grow a mangave. I’m just concerned that I won’t have enough light for it during the winter. ❄️💚🙃
  • Hi jeff, good info on my aloe that a family member gave me. Went to take it from the shelf and it dumped it's dry soil everywhere and I was able to save this thing without destroying her arms. No one was hurt in the incident.... wondered about how heavy and wonky this thing is. Now I have a better idea of what to do to support it. As far as soil goes, have you ever tried SunGold Succulent or Cactus mix? (from Amazon) I like it a lot. Not a fan of the MG that you used, and yes, have bought it and added all kinds of stuff.
  • QUESTION : if I have a plant that most if not all the leaves are dead on but the stem is a beautiful vibrant green do you think that I will be able to resurrect the plant? Unfortunately I took it down my basement with intentions of setting up my grow room and that did not happen, so it’s been without light and water for maybe going on two months. I’m hoping that I can save it along with my pink princess. ❄️💚🙃
