  • I had to stop listening to his music after my divorce. I learned he died in a text message from my estranged daughter, who I hadn't heard from in 11 years. She said she heard he died and she broke down crying. She remembered me singing his songs when she went to work with me. We are due to meet up to get reacquainted this Summer.
  • I had this cassette in my car for years. He died about 3 hours ago and I came to surround myself with his beautiful songs.

They rang the bell in the Mariner's Church in Detroit this week. Thirty times. Once for each sailor on the Edmund Fitzgerald and once for Gordon. It will ring thirty times on every anniversary of the sinking. Gordon Lightfoot has been added to the "crew and the captain well-seasoned" forever. God bless them all.
  • How sad another voice of the boomer generation goes off to join the immortals. Thank you God for giving us this great , talented balladeer. God bless all who fell in love with his work. Prayers for his family, friends and fans. It make me cry to hear of his death. But we can still forever listen to him sing and play. Teardrops an toil. Amen.

RIP another great writer whom John Prine referred to as his "songwriting hero" in 2018 before his passing. Music is Love.
  • Goodbye Mr. Lightfoot, your music will continue the work and will live on into our hearts
  • @greyrocker54
May you rest in peace Gordon. Your gifts to us Canadians and the rest of the world will last forever. Thank you...
  • Grew up with his music. Anyone remember AM radio? R.I.P Gordon Lightfoot. Another great one gone.
  • Feeling the sting of mortality today. We lost a great troubadour in Gordon Lightfoot. You were my gateway to the 12 String. Rest in peace knowing your music will continue to touch many.

I am also from Orillia and Gord and my dad were friends. When I was a little kid, he came by our house. Sitting on our couch, he pulled out his 12 string and played Sundown and Pussywillows and Cattails! It was so inspirational that as I got older, I taught myself to play guitar and have been playing now for almost 50 years. We may miss him but he.left us with his greatest gift; his music. RIP Gord!
  • @rudela9900
He is such a national treasure. Thank you, Canada, for presenting Mr. Lightfoot to the world.
  • Rest easy good sir, many thanks for the treasures you have left us. Our Maple Leaf should be flown at half mast in recognition of your contribution to our heritage. We have lost a true statesman.
  • 😢the world's crying tonight Fly high great legend singing man❤
