A lay person, not an engineer, not a port expert, pilot, captain, or sailor can see immediately that the pedestals for that bridge were inadequate protection for the supporting towers. Further, there had been a bridge catastrophe on the Delaware River in recent history. Why had no measures been taken to protect the bridge? At least, "dolphins" could have been laid at the pedestals. Many should be in prison for criminal negligence and worse.
  • We place barriers at entrances to stores so that no one can drive their car into the store, so why can't we place sturdy barriers around the pillars of bridges, as well?
