Taylor Soundcheck is back with another genre-bending performance featuring Chris DeMakes and Roger Lima from Florida ska-rockers Less Than Jake. From the Taylor showroom in Nashville, Tennessee, the duo talks about growing into their music careers by starting on acoustic guitars and the power of stripping back music to its bare bones. In between stories from their 30+ year career, Chris and Roger played acoustic versions of “Soundtrack of My Life,” “Gainesville City Rock,” and “American Idle,” with Chris playing an AD17e and Roger playing an AD17e Blacktop and a 314ce.

  • They aren't lying about generations following them. My dad bought a less than jake album for me when I was a teen. I just took my 13 yo son to see these guys in July. My boy plays drums and no other band lights a fire under him like Less than Jake. I've never seen him happier than when he is playing Less than Jake.

  • @MackDaddyVic
Less Than Jake is something else man. Their songs always make me feel nostalgic and happy.
  • Really dig this. Makes me feel like there should be a Less Than Jake Unplugged album.

Not only do they sound exactly the same on record as live, but Rog sounds exactly the same now as he did 20 years ago. You can tell they still love what they're doing

Hearing them like this makes me realize how lucky I was to grow up in the 80's/90's. Such a special music era
  • @DiogoPace
Chris and Roger voices harmonies have always been LTJ’s secret weapon. So unique sounding, love it.
  • Roger is honestly on the Mount Rushmore of artists that sound 100% (if not better) live than on the record...

Just hearing these two voices singing together makes me happy. What a band!
  • Seen these guys live more than any other band, they always bring a great show, can't wait to see them again. 🙂

This band, these guys, are the soundtrack to my life. I’m a fortunate man.
  • Two of my favorite people in the industry. Chris and Roger are always insightful and hilarious.
  • My fav band. Seen them live countless times- their energy is unmatched. But now definitely want an entire acoustic album ❤️❤️
  • I've seen LTJ 25 times going back to the 90's. I've always thought of their musical vibe as Desperate Optimism.
  • their voices are still holding up. thanks for making me feel less alone growing up guys x

I think it’s official that Taylor Guitars has become one of the greatest music channels over the last few years with the bands y’all have been having on. Keep up the amazing work!
  • @RockinMatthias
How they keep writing original sounding bangers over the same four chords amazes me. Huge love for this band since I saw them in Australia supporting frenzal rhomb in 2000.
  • This literally was so amazing. I’ve seen y’all play acoustic in Gainesville and it was probably one of the best things I’ve ever experienced. When Roger said you captured your fans as a specific point in time and it stuck, that is so on point, I’ve been listening since I was 11 and honestly your music is what has kept me going and pulled me out of so many tough times.. your shows are unmatched. Love y’all so much
  • I've loves that I invested my time time 25 years ago to listen to my first less than jake song. As someone from the UK that meant going to HMV to the import section and picking up the track from there. God was it worthwhile you guys and the rest of the band are awesome! I've lived every gig I've gone to see you at. I never miss a UK tour and even did the virtual lock down gig! I love all of the old stuff and new stuff! I can't wait to take my kids to your gigs!

“Listening to the soundtrack of my life”. Literally. LTJ 🎶🤘🏻💖
