Ratatouille is one of the most popular and well loved Disney Pixar animated films in the early 2000's. Set mostly in Paris, the plot follows a young rat Remy who dreams of becoming a chef at Auguste Gusteau's restaurant and tries to achieve his goal by forming an unlikely alliance with the restaurant's garbage boy Alfredo Linguini. We at spilling the milk wanted to watch this movie and we reacted to it

I love that the way they "defeated Ego" was by serving him the most humble of meals. A "peasant dish" that reminds him of his mother’s cooking. The one thing he couldn’t possibly give a negative review. It was perfect.

I love how Gusteau canonically gets criticized once and dies.
  • This is one of those movies that doesn't even need a sequel. It ended with quite a twist. Instead of Remy becoming a chef at Gusteau's, he becomes head chef in his own restaurant under secrecy, still being able to live his dream. Ego finally gets to taste real quality food he's long forgotten about, Linguini finally got himself a job he's good at, Collette gets treated with the respect she deserves, and the rats don't have to go hungry and be afraid of poison, now that's an ending.

There's a scene in the movie where Remy smells the soup and gags. Rats are unable to vomit. So Linguini made the soup so horrible it broke the laws of nature...
  • You missed a win: Despite Colette voicing how much misogyny she had to fight to get where she is, Ego doesn't think twice about her being the Chef (he's wrong of course, but his reaction at the idea is one of delight rather than incredulity). And this makes perfect sense, since the best cook he ever knew was a woman: his mother.

I liked the food critic, both when he was a hater and when he genuinely enjoyed the food

That ending speech that Ego makes in his review always makes me tear up whenever I watch it. Probably my favorite moment in any Pixar movie.

When I was a kid I thought that Ratatouile was a delicious multicolored pepperoni/sausage dish, and wanted to eat it SO BAD. You can’t IMAGINE my childhood disappointment to find out that it’s just sliced veggies. A salad in disguise
  • Even with all the controversy, Ratatuille has one of my favourite quotes of all times: "Not everyone has the talent to become a great artist, but an artist can be found in anyone".

I completely forgot this movie starts with that annoying trope of “yeah, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I got in this situation,” which was so popular at one point for some reason.
  • The thing is, there are female rats, you just can't notice them if you don't know about rats because they're not pink with long hair and lashes, they're just smaller than the male rats

This movie just gets better with age.. that Anton Ego speech is one of my fav scenes period
  • @draconis17
"In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau’s famous motto: Anyone can cook. But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere."

Ok, now watch Ratatoing. I unironically want you to watch it.
  • I can't be the only one who used to think that ratatouille was made of pepperoni
  • @TheCrimsonCake
This, Up and Wall-E were my favourite movies. Ratatouille was Creativity and Finding yourself, Wall-E was Discovery and Warnings of the future, Up was Moving on and Learning Trust.

I think we can all agree that every food dish in this movie can make us really hungry and just look overall delicious, especially the ratatouille 😋
  • @geardog24
“Back in the day you had a shotgun not insurance.” My grandparents can vouch for that.
  • @Montesama314
I liked this movie for both some of the characterizations (like the woman cook Colette Tatou, who may seem harsh but has good reasons to be) and the variation of the "anyone can cook" message of the film. Not just anyone can become great at a thing, but talent can come from unexpected places, so don't be quick to sell yourself or others short.
