Roof inspection of a roof that was replaced by a roof salesman

Published 2022-04-22
Roof inspection of a roof that was recently replaced in the past year or 2. There are good roofing contractors and bad ones out there! There are some contractors that do a good job and care about the quality of install for their customers. There are some that care solely about the money going into their pocket and not one bit about the customer.
Don't get me wrong, a good profit margin is good and is needed to stay in business. When your contractor is telling you you're getting things and paying for items like ice and water and all new flashing, then you don't get it, they're cheating you!

  • The tiny details are truly what separate roofing companies. Like using aluminum pipe flashings, kick outs on the chimney and even as small as using black caulk for all the nails just makes everything look and perform so much better. Love your videos keep making them!

Do a video on a super high quality install....you show a ton a vids on the crappy ones, I would love to see a nice one! Something to compare to....
  • I don’t know if you have heard about lifetime tool pipe flashings that’s all I use. They are expensive but well worth it I don’t give customers a choice I just include them on the bid. I carry one around to show them the difference between one regular pipe flashing and a lifetime tool.
  • As an insurance adjuster, THANK YOU!!! Insurance is not a maintenance program it is an actual loss safety net.

The challenging issue with finding quality roofers is that even though you get referrals and check out a good reputation, you still don't know which "crew of the day" is going to be sent out to do your job. That is why you should choose a small roofing company with only 1 or 2 install crews. That said, it is still usually a crap shoot because you also don't know how long the guys have been employed with the small company you hired.

I can’t believe you just found out about that style of ladder ears last year they work good
  • you and veteran construction best roofers on youtube keep it up bro

Yeah ... That ladder stabilizer I used it once or twice and what it did was the constant movement of the ladder as you are walking up or down, it's scraping off roofing at that point touching the roof, basically ruining the roofing in that spot. A person should not be destroying the roof when you get up on the roof. I no longer use that contraption.

im a roofer in new jersey and when I do my pipe flashings I put ice around them before I shingle over
  • It makes you seem really professional I guess to people that don't know better I've never in my life ever used to stand off just to get on a roof

Thanx for the standoff link. Will be getting a set of these. I do a lot of side jobs apart from my full timer and use bullhorn standoff, just not enough distance from wall sometimes. These look a little better then the rung type the company I work for uses. They always bend at the tabs meant to keep it on the ladder if you lose any of the 4 pins.
  • I won't lie, when I go back on a job I bid and didn't end up getting the job I try to be as unbiased as possible but damn does it not feel good deep down to pick out and show those homeowners little shit "their roofer" did wrong. Never gets old. Keep up the good work buddy
  • I agree with your assessment of the roof and should be repaired after all it's new. The riser, when it was stripped the sheathing around it and secure it to structure and go from there.

thank you for the very informative video. I wish you were in the SF Bay area - I would hire you!

One of the biggest issue I come across is roofers not removing the old felt and rolling a second layer of felt and they won't replace any wood. The chimney flashing they should extend the bottom side 4 inches on each side and the step should go down past the bottom piece on top of it. The plastic boots leak way too often but people use them because they are cheap.

He's right guys. I bought ladder stabilizer as he suggested, and it has been a real asset to me and my ladder ever since I bought it!
