I was playing the bass to this (we used to do a Thin Lizzy medley) in my band about 45yrs ago. I still play the bass to this and am highly delighted to find out that it was/and is pretty much identical to this. Love Thin Lizzy! The shame is, I think their recordings are a bit on the thin side (absolutely no pun intended) and just wish that they were around to record themselves on today’s equipment as they’d sound even more awesome. I find this with a lot of yesteryear’s bands in comparison to some of today’s dynamics sound reproductions. Anyway, the medley we used to play was; Emerald, Jailbreak (the big E), Dancing in the Moonlight, Johnny, and The Boys are Back in Town… what else 👍

Phil Lynott was the reason I picked up the bass in the first place, I feel that he was a one of a kind musician and I’m glad your doing another Thin Lizzy lesson. It’s hard to find any kind of tablature or notations from Thin Lizzy which makes it difficult to practice their songs. Thank you for taking the time to put this lesson together.

This is one of the first riffs I ever tried to play, -- long ago, before I even had a bass of my own,,, It's about time I learned this song. Thank You. Also: I've been obsessed with Prakash John's bassline for the Intro to Sweet Jane from the live album Rock n Roll Animal... So beautifully melodic!
  • I love the variety of your lessons Greg. One thing I’ve learnt over the years is that to improve you need to listen to every genre of music.
  • Ah magic, love Philos bass lines. A truly inspiring Bass Player. Been fortunate to have played some of his iconic P Basses. This is a brilliant tutorial and I look forward to studying it in more detail. Cheers. Niall

“The Rocker” was another great song that has a great beat, the entire Live and Dangerous album was wall to wall great songs. Rosalie was another song that really liked but can’t find any lessons or tabs for, I’m sure there’s a version for Bob Seger but the Thin Lizzy version was better. Even Lemmy and Motörhead covered it, so you know the song rocked.
