HalllOOOOOOO! (ween) amirite?
This week I just felt like getting cozy and making some clothes and so I DID! I took some thrifted bedsheets and vintage fabric I had lying around and got to WORK. My body is so ready for autumn weather, now if only Earth would get the dang memo.

  • I must say - and cannot emphasize this enough - that there is no such thing like too much Rachel Maksy sewing content. Especially when you make something wearable for every day. It inspires me so much and just makes me happy. 🤗
  • Rachel: "lemme know if you guys are tired of this kind of content" Me: feeling that lovely slap of serotonin the second that little intro plays "nope...this is good."
  • @tiff8683
"In this house we praise pumpkins and Brendan Fraser" is the MOST relatable opening I've ever heard
  • @kmart1396
Tbh even if clothes making is "repetitive", the fact I also had no idea what that pattern for the dress was saying until you put it on when i had a true eureka moment of "oohhh yeah that makes sense" is worth it. Which is to say you're always trying to make new garments in your journey of sewing and its a delight to watch any time!
  • "Let me know if you get tired of this concept..." says the girl who was afraid to make it on youtube, but went from 70 000 subscribers to close to a million in just a few years... with just THAT content! You're doing great Rachel, do what you love, because we love watching THAT!
  • The reason the dress doesn't fit right is due to a defect on the pattern, not you. The original from the 50s would probably have fit you. Stephanie Canada has a whole breakdown on the flaws on the pattern that may help you fix that one if you want. :)
  • Here's a wild thought. Perhaps 70s Dad is actually the younger version of whiskey grandpa from days of yon.
  • @swiinka
YES times 9000 to the sewing content! Fun fact: that Buterick dress pattern is somewhat legendary and at the time of its release was advertised as the easiest, quickest make.
  • "In this house we praise pumpkins." Me: well, that's a given rachel: and Brendan Fraser Me: HARD AGREE

As someone who has done nothing but rewatch your entire catalog during the holiday weekend I can honestly say that I don't find your sewing videos repetitive and am desperately craving more....MORE!!!

The reason I love your videos so much is just how casual you are about sewing. I adore watching people like Bernadette Banner for in-depth, detailed constructions and her vast knowledge of historical fashion, but when I see you just have the time of your life sewing a cute dress from a curtain or bed sheet you bought in a thrift store, that really speaks to my heart. I don't have the money for all of those fancy fabrics, but curtains and bed sheets? That is the language I understand, and it inspires me to make something out of fabric that would have otherwise gathered dust forever. Most importantly, you are unashamed of the little imperfections in your dresses and the often improvised nature of your sewing process, and you are SO RIGHT for that! As a perfectionist, I really need to pound it into my skull that it's so, so much more important to sew ANYTHING, even if the finished product won't necessarily be perfect. Because if I'm so afraid of mistakes, I won't ever start a project in the first place. So, I guess, thanks for being my sewing therapist, Rachel. You're awesome.
  • This brought back memories. My grandmother use to use this exact dress as a crafting/painting dress. Snaps instead of buttons, and that way she could paint in oils or acrylics and not worry about getting paint on herself. The aprons would not cover all 360 of "oops" when painting. Accidental lean on a wet wall, butt swipe on a corner of a desk, or occasional drip from the hair onto the back of the dress.
  • I love that Rachel is worried that we might be bored by her sewing videos, when i think most of us would watch thousands of hours of her just talking to Frodo.
  • I don’t know if you still do the “Make it Vintage” series, but vintage Bellatrix Lestrange would be awesome 👏🏼
  • Please don’t stop this content! (Unless you want to) I am here for it. It’s entertaining and inspiring. It makes me really want to sew my own clothes. 💙
  • Your sewing content is what gets me to actually do projects. NO SUCH THING AS TOO REPETITIVE WITH SEWING. <3
  • Rachel: “Would you like to hear about my religion?” Me: “No thank you.” Rachel: “In this house we praise pumpkins and Brendan Fraser.” Me: “ tell me more about your religion.”
  • Love the idea of Nick being the Official Channel Cryptid! Known only by his proximity to food, Frodo and Rachel kisses. Once on a harvest moon, if you're lucky, he'll appear in corporeal form to explain his opinion on fancy hotdogs in detail
  • I have made that dress pattern twice, and it's fab. I made it in a heavy tapestry/upholstery floral fabric and it was glorious
  • As a SAHM in small farm town, you give me so much confidence to dress for myself and not others! Please keep sewing and trying new things!!
