Rolling Stone has called 35-year-old singer-songwriter Sierra Ferrell one of "country and roots music's most fascinating and fastest-rising artists." She's touring alongside the Avett Brothers and Zach Bryan this summer. But Ferrell's road to this moment was unconventional. As Anthony Mason shows, the only thing more amazing than her voice is her story.

CBS has been showcasing some really incredible non-mainstream talent lately - especially Country/Blues/Americana/Blue Grass. Billy Strings, Charlie Crockett, Gary Clark Jr., to name a few. Much respect to a big network using their power and reach to give these artists the spotlight.
  • I was friends with friends of hers. I remember her playing music on my sister’s front porch in Arkansas with some of my cousins. She had a beer in her hand, a guitar in her lap, wearing a baggy T shirt, cut off jeans & she was barefooted. They’d pass around a joint, take a swig of beer & play the best front porch down home music I ever heard. She has come so far from the girl on my sister’s porch. I am so proud to know her back when it started. You go gal.

Sierra Ferrell is the closest natural talent to Hank Williams that I've ever seen. I'm from Nashville and I've seen a lot of pretenders to that throne. Her talent is undeniable, she is one hell of a songwriter.

Sierra is a remarkable talent! Seeing her live is a genuine experience. You will laugh, you will cry, you will never forget it. And if you get to meet her, she’s a sweetheart. So happy to see her star rise higher and higher. She deserves everything she has worked so hard for.
  • Dear God, please protect Miss Sierra, please surround her with people who will protect, care, & strengthen her. Keep her & her sweet heart in your care, give her the power to resist evil—and be empowered & blessed by the beauty & joy of the world. Amen

For the last ten years, as I've curated playlists, I've heard and seen Sierra, other buskers, oddball bands, and obscure artists on what I call 'low rent" YouTube videos, and it brings me happy teardrops to see one of these artists come up from the streets, literally. This is an excellent, accurate report with emotion built right in! Well deserved "congratulations" Sierra!

She's a real life siren and you can't convince me otherwise. Seeing her live is just an experience words can not do it justice
  • What a beautiful mini-bio tribute to my favorite, Sierra Ferrell! ❤ I've been following her career since 2019 and just KNEW she was a rising star. I am so happy for her, and all her success. I was lucky to see (and meet) her twice. She's sweet and very down to earth.

I’ve loved her for years and I’m glad she’s getting recognition.. her voice can take away your pain for sure. It has for me.

I saw Sierra 2 days in a row in Des Moines Iowa and Omaha Nebraska... I traveled a total of about 15 hours over 2 days to see her. Absolutely incredible live performer.
  • She is simply the most interesting artist I've heard in years, and I'm not especially a big country music fan. Her songs just speak to me. Her best song (in my humble opinion) is called "The Sea," which is a magnificent sort of a jazz-ish type of tune.
  • Like most folks I discovered Sierra on this very platform and there was immediately this indescribable "something" about her that was genuinely overwhelming in the best way, an astounding combination of having a sound that feels like it's always been around while also being new and completely her own. Thanks for this!

"It's usually the people who have less that give you something. Because they know what it's like." My experience exactly. It's so nice that she's finally getting the media attention she deserves. I just hope her meteoric rise to fame doesn't burn her out. She's too precious and important for that. Bless you Sierra!

I discovered her for myself after she appeared on Zach Bryan's self-titled album late last year. I looked her up on youtube and then disappeared down a rabbit-hole litening to her music for days it seemed like. She is super talented and has a unique voice that she has infinite control over. She is my favorite female indie-country artist at this point, and am anxious to see her live someday. YOU GO SIERRA!!!!
  • @annagrisham2215
I could not love her and her music more! She has me singing around the house again. Her live shows are pure genuine joy!
  • @Dimbimbus
Thanks for putting her in the spotlight she deserves the world

I have been huge fan ever since I came across YouTube and GemsonVHS videos almost 7 years ago. I have seen Sierra and her band 4 times so far, they were fantastic shows. One of those artists that sounds even better in person.

Sierra Ferrell caught my attention the first time hearing her a few years ago. Molly Tuttle & Bill Strings are two other fav's of mine. These talented musicians don't need a stage full of dancers, large bands, smoke, fire & crazy lights to put on a great show. Appreciate what they do. 🎸🎸🎸

Sierra is an amazing performer. I saw her at Telluride Bluegrass in 2023...she played during the day, far from the headlining acts and brought the house down with people running across the ropes and rushing the stage, dancing and loving life with her music as the background. That's what her shows do to people. This year she has her rightful spot as a headliner at night. She deserves all the delayed attention she's getting now!
