How Rammstein Defied The Odds & Conquered The World! I discuss the history of Rammstein, from their early years to success with "Heirate Mich" and "Rammstein," how Till Lindemann evolved as Rammstein's frontman, "Du Hast," the Family Values tour with Korn, Limp Bizkit and Ice Cube, "Sehnsucht" and more.

  • It's crazy that all 6 members have been in the band since the start. No lineup changes since the early 90's

Rammstein are a "once in a century" anomaly. No act in heavy music that I'm aware of can match their level of sophistication, their showmanship, their artistic courage, and the beauty of their songs. They deserve all their fame and more.

What I really love about Rammstein is how they play. They don’t do anything crazy or over the top musically, but instead execute everything precisely and efficiently. Hard hitting, catchy riffs that aren’t overly complicated.
  • The music video for Deutschland is without doubt the greatest Music Video ever made, the production value is off the charts!
  • The most remarkable thing to me is that they have never had a lineup change. They have said in interviews that they look at it the opposite way a lot of other bands do. The band is not bigger or more important than the members. If it's not working for everyone, it's not working.

The importance of the Deutschland video absolutely cannot be overstated. One of the best bands of several generations.
  • Their live shows are just worth every single penny. They’re sooo good. Both the show and how they sound live. If you’ve never seen them live and have the chance, 100% go next time they’re near by.

This band is beyond blessed. I've never seen a band who grew more successful with age and continue to produce consistently great music. In many ways they are better now than ever. Rammstein fur immer. 🖤

I have to say - I love how Rammstein made the German language and accent cool again. There has been such a strong subconscious negative connotation to the sound of a voice like that due to the hangover from WW2 - but Rammstein reclaim it with pride and make it sound SO badass.

It makes me happy to know that a band like rammstein can exist and be really successful. Legendary group!
  • The Video to Deutschland is basically a rundown of the whole of german history of the last 600 years. The first time I saw that it gave me massive goosebumps and even brought a tear to my eyes... Absolut legends!

The secret sauce to their success is all in the presentation. The live shows and the music videos are what sells this band. Videos when done well, can break through language barriers better that any other way. That's how they have been able to keep singing in their native tongue and do well abroad for so long. Their music videos are incredible works of art themselves and can give the viewers ideas of the meanings behind their songs.
  • My dad saw em in xXx… He once called me randomly to say “Did you hear they banned Rammstein from the US…that’s bullshit..we’re goin to Germany” This man was 55 years old. Legend.
  • Their show is amazing. A must see. They toured the USA, I went. Oh mi god. I'd never seen anything like it. People sang Du Hast along with the band, the band just stopped playing and the audience sang. It was a great show, and no one was hurt, no fights, no crowd surges, people drank oh yes. But just a great concert, and a great band, and a marvelous time.

For me the biggest part of rammstein and their almost random popularity comes from the glorious catchiness of everything. Riffs riffs riffs! It's almost always super catchy, between the keyboard and the guitars, the four to the floor smack you in the face drums and the deep, beautiful vocals that come across poetic and anthemic on top of that. They're hard to not love, they know what they're doing as musicians, they know how to catch your ear and your attention.
  • Good summary! Another aspect which makes Rammstein so unique: the lyrics. Like his father, Till is a professional poet and published several poem books. Many Rammstein songs are sung poems, a typical example is "Nebel" (Fog). Till uses many out-dated or poetic words, unknown even for German native speakers, lots of references to German literature (e.g. Goethe), fairy tales, but also modern classic music (e.g. Edith Piaf). Typical are many, many ambigue words which need to be interpreted, classical tools of poetry, etc. The poem (song lyrics) "Nebel" e.g. is so good that it is used in classes about German poetry in some German schools. Maybe, Rammstein lyrics are the most intelligent in nowadays metal music.

Just a tiny little correction. Their debut wasn't an immediate success in Germany. It actually debuted at #99 in the charts and it took almost 2 years until it reached top 10. By that point Engel and Du Hast started to get extremely popular which boosted the sales of their previous album. And the #2 peak actually happened in 2020 when it was re-released.

Had light burns on my face after being on the front row at one of their shows. The fire canons when they played Sonne were insane. Security were crouched down and sprayed us with water bottles so we wouldn't burn 😂 Love your videos Finn!

Just got back from seeing their concert in Italy, and it was absolutely insanely awesome. The live sound ripping the air out of your chest plus the pyrotechnics was unforgettable. One of the best decisions I’ve made was to experience them live after listening on headphones for the last 25 years.
