As a massive portal nerd I'd love that narrative and I think it'd feel a lot less generic and add an easier story to follow for more casual gamers.

I'd have loved to overhear this darker, more serious side of Jay's story, possibly switching between his and Jimmy's parts as we progress, with them eventually confronting eachother near the game's climax given how heavily their perspectives clash. Those are some intruiging story bits and I really wonder why the devs decided to cut Jay's side of the coin while giving Jimmy's side the full spotlight. The conflict between trying to reveal the simulation, possibly to free as many people as possible from it, and fully embracing it by having carefree funtime at the cost of others could have made for an interesting story with sides to pick and reasonable points to make for either side. ("freedom for everyone" vs. "they were made for this" being one example)

This is probably the original plot of DeadFM the game that was supposed to be the original sequel of boneworks before bonelab. It totally matches the artwork Stress Level Zero released.
  • @pearagg
This maybe an earlier version of Jimmy's character because at the end of the game when you get in the taxi he refers to himself as J. Maybe his character was reworked when slz decided not to go with a darker stroyline.

This is actually so sick, I love plot points like these it always adds to the world

god this sounds much more engaging than jimmies broadcast, dont get me wrong theres nothing inherently wrong with jimmies broadcasts but the knowledge and insight he provides feels too similar to the way boneworks story was told. With this cut broadcast theres a sort of mystery and intrigue thet helps draw me in and makes the world of bonelabs feel more alive like as if it was an actual simulation and not just some vr game designed to look like a simulation for people to play through (if that makes sense) which was sort of a gripe i had with boneworks. It also helps to give the impression that the AI is actually sentient with their own thoughts and feelings on the world around them. As far as it stands it would have been nice to have had this broadcast in the game along side jimmies as it would give more than just one voiced character in the game and it didnt sound like there was any conflicting lore or world building between the two to warrant cutting it from the game. Also this guys voice is little bit more relaxing to listen to than jimmies, every repeat playthrough i see of this game every person ive watched always goes out of their way to destroy jimmies radios and i dont think they do it to prevent spoilers for people as there isnt much to be spoiled in the first place.

Even though these were cut, it could definitely still go with jimmy's storyline. after all, he was a npc who became sentient.
  • @APOLLO16334
They might use this in the next game when we see the things he talks about
  • Thanks for finding & uploading this!! Really interesting to listen to, I've heard the jingles but not these radio broadcasts. I really wish they explored more into these ideas in bonelab honestly. The concept and lore is really interesting, it feels very inspired by the matrix. It feels like this game is almost setting a bigger story up, maybe something to do with the AI slowly realizing they're living in a monogon simulation. Bonelab seemed very sandbox focused, possibly (hopefully?) Stress Level 0's next game is more story focused. We'll see!

I would love the darker storyline it would be so much deeper and interesting
  • this is exactly the content I've been waiting for. The lore for these SL0 games is too addictive
  • Only problem i see with Jay and Jimmy being two different people is the Taxi ride at the and of the game. Here Jimmy says "This is J". I believe it's J, being short for Jimmy and these are old placeholder voices, or perhaps earlier broadcasts before Jimmy took up the name J and the station
  • Honestly I feel really mixed about the story. I love Bonelab and I think while it's not on the same level as Boneworks in some ways, it has it's own things about it that make it amazing. But the story is just so far detached from Boneworks that it's just kind of, I don't know, bland? I love the parts with fantasy land and lava gang but it just isn't what I feel like anyone was expecting at all. I also think I know why they did this. I believe that the reason the story is so far different is just because people genuinely didn't understand the story in Boneworks, AT ALL. People would actually say that there just "was no story" and it was just a big tech demo.

As someone who's used to Portal and Portal 2, I would much prefer the darker tone these broadcasts were going for as I believe that it would escalate from Arthur's body getting shot in BW and would add to the story and world building for the SLZ games. I prefer J over Jimmy since I feel that Jimmy is just too positive to the point of being generic for my liking (Maybe having Jay be the equivalent of Rattman in the Portal story) Also J reminds me of Hank Green for some reason
  • @finthevoiceactor
i would have loved to go to a secret area and overhear these darker broadcasts making the game more eerie
  • @hakermanreal
would have been great slowly hearing that story alongside jimmys and possibly expand the game a good chunk in the void
  • @staticplays1871
This could still work as a back story because in bone lab we find out how he got into the void/lava gang not how he got into monogon plus this really sounds good for lore and story
