GI poncho and poncho liner (woobie) is referred to a 'Ranger Roll' or a 'Ranger Taco'. It's all many troops take out in the field if they're not burdened by SOP crap (carrying the MSS sleep system or combat shelters). Works well for moderate weather especially with a hammock which many people are finding better than a tent - if you have trees or vehicles to hang one from. Waist pack is one of the most useful pieces of mil-surp I have found - besides the poncho and liner. I wasn't sure they would stuff in waste pack so I Googled and now I do! I like to strap the waist pack under the MOLLE assault packs to expand load capability.
  • Nice video man. I learned stuff. I was Airborne Infantry but they don’t teach the simple things like this. Lol
  • I'll be damned. I was wrong. I was certain that there was room in the waist pack for precisely one poncho liner, and not one thing more. I attach the combo to the outside of my Alice Pack to carry the liner to supplement a lightweight sleeping bag. A really good setup is to carry essentials in the Alice But Pack on a battle belt, and attach this molle buttpack to he bottom of the Alice Buttpack. With battle belt mounted hydration, it makes a pretty light fast patrol setup.
  • The funny thing is I used the MOLLE II system for two years as an 0311 with 2/7, carried it almost every week, I didn’t know the butt pack was a Fanny pack till I turned it it and the clerk inspected it in front of me.
  • You can make a bag by using a smaugg. Spin the items up in the scarf and tie it around your waist or elsewhere 😉

I found one online but having trouble getting the poncho and liner into it. The waist pack is actual issue but the Poncho and Liner are USGI Industries. Brand new puffy woobie might be the issue. You got to fold it all in thirds right?

what do you do when it rains and you need the poncho ? unroll it all ?
  • Nice video ! I'd like to see someone snap three (3) ponchos together for a tent as per the instructions on the poncho label. I haven't seen anyone do that yet... I just ordered one of the waist/buttpacks to attach to the bottom part of my London Bridge molle vest with two sustainment pouches side by side above it. PRC 152 and miscellaneous pouches (IFAK, SAW, Canteen, K-Bar...) on the front. At 55 and back injuries from the service I can hump 25 lbs in a vest much easier than a regular rucksack
