  • You both made an excellent point about learning both stringers AND weaves! Excellent video!
  • @morcocaine
A little note to those just getting into the field, when you're taking a real test, use the same type rod you're testing for to do all your fit up tacks with. Inspector prob wouldn't like that 5P on the backing strap
  • This is some good info but you basically showed us that you are a good welder. Unless you can see the puddle and how the rod movement is actually feeling and speed it’s taking to do it then it leaves a gray area. Some people learn a lot better by seeing it done rather than being told. People need to be able to see it just like you are seeing it from under the helmet view

Nice welds but I would have failed for arcing on the plate
  • Alot of useful tips. However I don't think you can weave that wide per ASME Sec. 8 pressure vessel and boiler code. This is still great information about technique and weld placement.
  • Thanks for the videos but would like some better arc shots so we could see what is actually going on under the hood.

This video gave me flash burn 😅
  • I had no idea ³/¹⁶ was less than a quarter. Learn something new everyday.
  • do tiny triangles for the first bead and then half circles as the next ones and also use the remote for best outcome

Having table running vertical global drippy how fast or slow. Ur welds look great but I've only done stick for three days practice beads
  • @stevehines
The one to the right it's pretty darn close
  • I'm using Flextec 350x and wondering what should my other settings be at? Hot start; 0 to 10 and arc control; -10 to +10

One thing I would like to know is when is a backing strip allowed in a test plate and when does it have to be an open root?
  • @SubKamp
Hi really love the video It helps me a lot !!! Quick question… Do you let the rod touch the material or do You keep it just off ?? Gr Mikey from the Nederlands

Was trying that in a class recently . Vertical weld of a fillet. I am too unsteady trying to stand in front of it. I was better when I had my left elbow on a nearby post and my left hand holding my right hand with the stick in it.
