Winter Steam Around The Magic Kingdom: Walt Disney World Railroad 1/21 & 1/25/2024

Publicado 2024-01-28
The Walt Disney World Resort, located just outside of Orlando, Florida, may just be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the entire United States, with its four theme parks setting a golden standard for the amusement industry. Its flagship park is the Magic Kingdom, modeled closely after its older sister, the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Both parks share many of the same attractions, including a working steam railroad that operates around the park.

The Walt Disney World Railroad might be the most intriguing of the Disney Park Railroads to railroad enthusiasts, as it is the only one of the Disney Railroads to operate a full fleet of historic steam locomotives, with all of them being built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for Mexico's United Railways of Yucatan. They were purchased for use at Walt Disney World by Disney Imagineer Roger Broggie, and his friend, Earl Vilmer, in 1969, where they were not only restored, but cosmetically backdated to resemble locomotives from the late 19th century, complete with fluted domes and diamond stacks.

I recorded this footage on two seperate trips to the Magic Kingdom, on the 21st, and then the 25th of January. Operating both days were locomotives #1 and 2, named the "Walter E. Disney" and "Lilly Belle" respectively, named for Walt Disney himself, and his wife, Lillian Disney. Unlike in most of my videos, where the clips are edited in order of when the clip was recorded, this video instead mostly goes by location, interlaced by footage of the ride from station to station, with the exception of the "Evening" Shots.

However, there's more to see in this video beyond trains: Also in this video, you'll be able to see the Magic Kingdom's other steam-powered machine, the famed Liberty Belle Riverboat, and the Wildest Ride in the Wilderness: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! All in all, this was a great way to kick off my elongated stay in the Sunshine State. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Magic Kingdom and the Walt Disney World Railroad!

I’m glad to see a trainee on the Walter at 10:56. Thy need crew really bad, cause they don’t have enough to run 3 trains on busy days.

Walt seems to be wearing Roy's whistle AND pulling his coaches while he's away at Strasburg

Awesome video! Unfortunately the Roy O. Disney left two days when you started filming, as it’s due for its overhaul at Strasburg. In the meantime, the Roger E. Broggie is being tested before it returns.
