In this episode of On Purpose, I sat down with the co-host of the nationally syndicated hip-hop radio program The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God. We discussed everything from his biggest fears, his struggles with mental health and his unique take on parenting.

4 things I learned from this episode:

-Why Charlamagne had to change his lifestyle completely
-Why you should feel comfortable speaking up about mental health
-Why you should be confident even if you feel like you don’t know anything
-How to deal with parental paranoia

I really appreciate that Jay always gives his guests the opportunity to speak and fully flesh out their ideas. A lot of hosts tend to cut off the guests when they're speaking or feel the need to constantly share longwinded stories. It really shows that there's no ego involved.
  • You control your inner world. Once you realise that, you can take on anything.
  • Know that you can’t control everything and knowing the difference between what you can and can’t control 🔑
  • Someone out there wants exactly the kind of person you are, complete with all the flaws and failings you come with

Im such a huge fan of Charlamagne, and i've been so inspired by his growth over the years. I'm constantly on a healing journey myself, and I cannot wait until the day that a man that has reached this level of self-awareness comes into my life. Great interview.

Listening to Charlemagne talk about his mistakes so raw is really refreshing. He's not trying to virtue signal, or gain pity or empathy... he's just being real and talking himself through the learning process without judgement. We need to de-stigmatize mistakes as failure. The real failure is not to learn from our mistakes, or not moving because of fear.
