I have been on Orient Thai like a looooong time ago! The plane were super old, but suprisingly the services and food was pretty damn good compare to UA or AA!

My last 747-100 flight was in August 1991. Pan Am's 747-121 from MIA-LHR. My first 747 flight was in late June 1972 MIA-LHR on National Airlines. The buzz saw noise was most pronounced on JT9D-3A engines especially those nacelles which had the early "blow-in" doors near the intake.

@peter226688 The flight was good and not scary at all, HS-UTM has very few hours, around 50000 last time I checked. It is the last or second last -100 built (1986), so relatively young compared to most other -100s and only 2 years older than the first 747-400s.

@KimmurielBaenre Hi there, the IR birds are not too bad, among the lowest utilised 747s still flying. They still report hours & cycles and last time I checked they were far away from what LH's 744s have for example. Many of those sit around IKA/THR airports and only operate a few flights per week.

This aircraft was scrapped in Bangkok (Don Muang) Airport :((

@emiratesA380NCL Difficult to predict, I enquired with their ticketing office first per email and then in person when I collected my ticket. The staff confirmed that it was a 747-100 and no MD-80 or 747-300. They replied to my emails as well, so I would start there. But I think HS-UTM is now gone from the HKG route after they took delivery of an ex-UA 747-422. It therefore may only operate Hajj-leases at the moment. Btw, BKK-HKG-BKK is their only route.

@Chefsalat76 Yeah compare that to the ones still flying for Iran Air which were 75th-ish off the line, now those old girls have some cycles on them!
  • It is about maintainance. I travel in historic cars a lot but on a plane one needs to be even more extra careful. And with DC3s theyll fly in them for a long time in the future as they are such classics.
  • @Chefsalat76
@Helicopterpilot16 It was one of the louder buzz saw noise makers, but still far away from the Trent 700 on a TG 777 I recorded 2 months ago, an incredible buzz saw noise level (check out my other videos).

@Chefsalat76 i think they operate (or used to) HKG/BKK-HKT. are they cheap? so the best way to find out, since i am in the UK would be e-mail. how do you book?
  • @emiratesA380NCL
what routes do they fly and how can i make sure i am on a 100
  • I love the old JT9d engines, How loud was it comparable to? (The buzz saw noise)
