The best part is when Randy Rhoads' guitar solo starts and Ozzy becomes a fan

I am 58yo and have played music most of my life and to this day this solo still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Randy was FUCKING BRILLIANT !! He was taken way, way too soon. He had so much more to give the world. His talent was immeasurable !!

Randy Rhodes quite possibly one of the greatest guitar players of the time. He is up there with Van Halen Clapton and Hendrix
  • Randy was a guitar virtuoso who inspired and influenced more guitarists than can easily be counted. His mother had a music school in California and Randy was an instructor there. Imagine being able to say, "I took guitar lessons from Randy Rhoads." RIP Randy. Gone, but never forgotten.
  • It’s hard to believe that this song is more than 40 years old! Still sounds as good today as it did in 1981!

I grew up listening to Ozzy. Saw him live in San Antonio. Randy rhoads is one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

As for not showing much of Randy’s solo - that’s something that was common on music videos so guitarists couldn’t watch it to learn how to play it note-for-note (trying to protect copyright). Watch nearly any vid with a great solo (Living Colout’s Cult Of Personality etc) and they cut from the guitarist a lot. Love the reaction from all three of you guys. Very cool.

Drummer Tommy Aldridge is a legend. I can't believe he went from a Southern Rock Band called Black Oak Arkansas, to playing with Canadian guitar hero, Pat Travers in a hard rock/metal setting, to being in Ozzy's band a few years later. Now he's with Whitesnake. I believe he's self-taught too!
  • @charliekiger
Randy Rhodes is one of the GOATs of the electric guitar. He was classically trained, and continued to teach classical guitar while on breaks with Ozzy.

Back then bands didn't like showing their guitarists iconic licks. I guess they were thinking "if you like it that much, go buy my record". Kind of like today, some famous guitarists closely guard which effects pedals they use and what sequence they connect them. They don't want their iconic sound to be copied.

I grew up as a little girl in the 80's with that music blasted in my house cause Randy Rhoads was my brother's hero. He had the polka dot guitar and even had some people call him Randy, that's how much he worshipped him. The other brother had people call him Jimmy for Jimmy Page.

Saw him in 81 with Roads his stage set up was insane
  • We can't even imagine what amazing music we'd have if St Rhoads had lived... he was too damned good!
  • You mentioned "Ozzy in his prime" and what's crazy is that today he doesn't speak very well but still sings just as clear and awesome as he ever did. Even in old age the dude slays with his singing voice.
  • @joeregester5629
that cool interlude is done by the keyboards and guitar chorusing (playing the same thing) which gives it that cool sound, especially as both are spot on.
  • @swedechef9628
You have to react to the other Rochester Public TV Studio OZZY songs.... I DON'T KNOW and CRAZY TRAIN. They are true masterpieces of Randy Rhoads and OZZY's best band lineup.
  • Randy's polka dot guitar is a custom by a guy named Sandoval based on the flying V shape. Actually his most Famous V design IMO, the Concorde V can be seen to the right in the background on the floor along with his les Paul.
