One of the reasons I was so thrilled to be out of the classroom- admin with no clue what’s going in my classroom or in my kids’ lives telling me what speed to teach at!! I could go on but I’m not getting on my soapbox. How are your babies?

Teacher here in Sacramento and we use benchmark too. I totally agree with you about Benchmark. There’s a lot that they want us to do within 1 week. Since I’m a newer teacher, I’m so glad I have such an amazing team. My team decided that we should do 1 week (for two weeks) so essentially we do 1 unit for 6 weeks. I’ve only taught 3rd grade so far in my teaching career but I also love teaching multiplication as well! Can’t wait to start because I definitely have some songs I am planning on singing with multiplication facts!
  • I'm a first year teacher and my school just adopted Benchmark this year. Since we have to teach with fidelity and follow a curriculum calendar set up by admin its been hard to get through everything. I'd love to see a video all about how you set up centers that are aligned to Benchmark. ❤
  • So happy to see you. I've been retired for seven years. Yes, please think about retirement. It's no easy here on Florida, teacher's salaries are very low compared to California. You remind me so much when I was teaching. I still miss my little ones. Have a blessed year!❤💛🕊️🫶✝️🙏😊👍

Hi Shelley!, Remember that "#THIRDISTHEWORD" thing that you used to have posted on your walls in your classroom when you were first teaching 3rd grade? What happed to it? I miss it. Anyhow thanks for the vlog. I needed to see your beautiful looking face again. - Dwight
  • Oof I've had to sub teach benchmark. It can be hard to wrap my head around it when I'm looking over the plans in the morning

My last two years I taught 3rd grade benchmark! That government book really brought it all back, haha! But my principal did not let us use TPT or any of the amazing resources she makes because it’s not district approved 😅😅😅
  • It does not need to take rulers and time. Use a PDF of a blank multiplication chart. Go to Adobe and make a poster. 4 sheets of paper. So easy. Michelle in Pocketful of Primary shows you how. (You may have already seen that video.) It could take you 10 minutes total. Then keep a master and copy each year. What read aloud are you currently reading. I have read Eleven and The One an Only Ivan. Always looking for another.

I am blessed to be in a district that pays well. That being said, I would not have the salary I do if not for having 24 years experience and having paid for two graduate degrees between 2004 and 2018.

Are you happy you are back in 3rd, or do you miss 2nd? I'm currently teaching 2nd grade. I'm missing teaching 4th grade 😢.
