This Burger King restaurant is frozen in time. It's filled with retro wall decor, wooden booths and old soda machines. The restaurant first opened in 1987 at the concord mall in Wilmington, Delaware. Unfortunately, the restaurant closed 13 years ago and was sealed off behind a wall. The rest of the mall was renovated around it until a curious contractor opened the locked door. Now the mall's owners are hoping someone will step in and breathe new life into this vintage fast-food restaurant.

Whoever said this is “terrifying” needs to get out more. There’s nothing creepy or terrifying about it. It’s freaking awesome!

Pretty much the most exciting thing to happen to Delaware.
  • I want to know why this girl stated that this old restaurant is terrifying. Just... Simply ... Flip on the light switch. And you've literally stepped back 30 years. That is so great that something like that is perfectly preserved
  • Frozen in time.. That's pretty cool! Hope they will keep it as it is, play the vintage music and stuff.. Just to travel back to the 80s! :)

Only 13 years ago? The real crazy part of this story is that even as late as 2009 there was still a Burger King in operation that looked this way and hadn't been renovated since the 1980's.

I'm 50 years old, definitely brings me back to my teenage years! I'm hoping whoever redevelops the space keeps the 80s vibe going!! It was a great and fun time to be a teenager ☺️❤️
  • Places like these need to be preserved!!!!!! There’s an old retro Sonic in intracoastal City, Louisiana!!!!!! Hasn’t been renovated since the 60’s!!!!!
  • Keep it nostalgic with an 80s feeling. That would make people of all ages show up in droves and get an awesome experience 👏

It would be cool to see a Burger King franchisee give this location another shot and reopen this place keeping the old school look inside and with the original B.K. logo signage it once had. I believe people would go there once again, especially for the nostalgia of it.

the employee that called it creepy and terrifying belongs in jail
  • I was born in 04 but this is so fascinating, I do hope they preserve and reopen it, I’d definitely make the trip up there to see it

Local here, I can tell you that management probably did not forget it was there. The concord mall as a whole has been suffering for years. Trying to get any business to take up residence there when the nearby Christiana Mall has been expanding immensely has probably been a challenge for them. So they just left it
  • imagine how cool it would be if they reopened it and kept everything the same... so nostalgic for some people
  • One of my dads friend owns a condo on the beach since the 70s and he moved away around 86. He still visit like maybe once a year but he always let me stay there if we ask. And it’s like a beach condo with all “new” 80s stuff, the tv the carpet the fridge and stove, a bunch of cool radio shack gadgets a water bed. It truly is amazing every time I walk in there to see how perfect and clean everything still is.

Was feeling proud of myself for not seeing how old/nostalgic this looks, because I haven't set foot inside a Burger King since the 90's and have no basis for comparison. Then I remembered I totally have gone to Burger King several times since then. I just hit up the drive-thru.
  • Both creepy and beautiful. Anything 'frozen in time' is almost always fascinating. Nostalgia really does drive us.
  • There's no way it was forgotten. Developers account for EVERY square foot especially in a mall.

If I were burger king I'd keep it the exact same and re-open. You already have a unique opportunity and how cool would it be to see a retrofit of modern commodity to a classic era restaurant we all grew up with.
  • Born in ‘87 and I grew up going to this mall and eating at this BK. Memories… Interesting how they hid that restaurant behind there. Hopefully something will replace it or maybe they will reopen it.😊
