Published 2023-01-08
Bonjour à tous.

This week at the chateau, we take a look back at when we bought the crumbling Chateau de Lalacelle. Abandoned for over 40 years, this beautiful monument was in a sad state of disrepair, with crumbling chimneys, broken widows and leaking roof, the chateau did not have must life left in her.

With the start of the restoration in 2021 we look through some of the massive jobs over the two years of owning a abandoned chateau in 20 minutes, the family have achieved so much in this time with beautiful finished rooms.

join us on our family journey restoring this beautiful chateau to its former glory.

About us,

We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.

The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.

Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

I love the fact that you kept the heart of the chateau alive. You didn’t restore it to a modern home. You kept the essence of that amazing architecture, and made it a home again. c’est juste magnifique!!
  • You can almost hear the sigh of relief from the house that it has been healed from inside out, beautiful job!

From the moment this channel began, I have been here. Through the back breaking work, the disappointments, tears and struggles...there was something else that rose far above this. The determination, love, smiles, encouragement and family. The pain staking details on every single job, just that perfect piece to make it all come together, that hue of paint or stain that changed the entire room or piece. The incredible talent of each member of the family came together in unison every single day of the last 2 years. THIS is how you renovate a chateau!!!!❤ Standing ovation!!!!!👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
  • It’s nearly impossible to fathom the daunting renovations that stood before you just two years ago, and how much the four of you and Jonathan have accomplished. You had a handful of wonderful volunteers and family help along the way, but none of you could ever be accused of laziness, that’s for sure. Imagine what the chateau will be in the next two years. Congratulations!! xx
  • That final shot, magnificent! Watching this, I could almost feel the place weeping with joy at being saved. Say what you want about today's youth, but these young people prove that there are some that appreciate the old and aren't afraid to work to restore it to it's former glory. Congratulations to you.

I love how tenderly the paneling was removed, repaired, then rehung.
  • What struck me the most with this video, besides how far you’ve all come in your DIY efforts, is the immense amount of editing that it took to make the video itself. And your music was perfect!! Awesome job!

At the end, I cried. Y’all brought life back into this place. Thank you for restoring this beauty.

Buying a chateau is a very tempting idea, but really it is for those that can do a lot of the work themselves or have a very generous disposal income to do the restoration. I really admire all of those that adventured themselves to buy this properties that have been abandoned for so many years and put so much hard work in bringing them back to life. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us! ❤

It looks like Cinderella’s Chateau. It’s very satisfying, how you brought the beauty back to it’s life. And you tried everything just to make everything the same as it was. Kudos to your team!

Repurposing the materials in the chateau was cost effective. My favorite parts were the wood staining, the dogs, and discovering the potential the chateau had in becoming a home. Fantastic Restoration.

"Renovation" for such a gem would be "vandalization" în my view. I'm so glad that you took great pain in restoring it to its glory days, with care and heart.
