  • I find it amazing that people complain about the price of the Polys. They think the Polys are expensive compared to the Prismas. News flash people: You'll be spending more money on your Prismas vs. the Polys. Why? Because you'll go through your Prismas faster than the Polys. I watched an interesting video where the person (SuperRaeDizzle) took 1 Prisma and colored blank sheets of paper (standard size 8.5 x 11}. She wanted to know how many pages she could color with 1 pencil. With the Prisma, she managed to color 4.5 pages. With the Poly, she colored 31 pages. Yeah, people, for every 1 Poly, you'll need 7.5 Prismas. Now break it down into money and you tell me which one is truly the more expensive one.

Never experienced any of these but I would choose... CRAYOLA
  • @SuperRaedizzle
Another great video! I personally have a lot of trouble with prismacolor tips breaking, so they last a fraction of how long my polychromos do, BUT I love them. I can't choose haha
  • @petitluna2571
In conclusion: I don’t have money to buy either of those.
  • Polychromos are my all time favorite, though it takes a while to learn how to use them properly
  • I'm impressed with how comprehensive this explanation is.... But I'm still no wiser about which I'll choose.

I've been using Prismacolors for a long time, and I've always wanted Faber Castles because they looked so much better. It's nice to see that it's perfectly fine for me to stick with what I have at the moment.
  • at 2min 36 seconds in it is obvious that that these 2 types should be used together to maximize blending and vibrance with top layer of finer details
  • @DrAdnan
Perfect timing. I want fabers but they’re so expensive
  • One thing I would add to the comparison, is the transparency. Polychromos are more transparent then Prismacolors. I first watched this video about two years ago, and ultimately bought the full set of 120 Polychromos. But then I started doing some work on black paper. I just couldn’t get the color density I wanted, and the problem was apparently related to how transparent the colors are: too much of the black paper was showing through. So now I’ve invested in a set of 150 Prismacolors. They have a greater opacity and for this type of art, that was important.

After deliberating over which pencils to buy for such a long time, I decided to go with Polychromos. The reason for this choice was that I was able to get a set of 36 at a discounted price because the tin was slightly damaged. After watching your very informative video, I’m so glad I came home with the Polychromos! I love them!

I have a set of both. One great wax set (prismas) and one AMAZING oil set. But I am an oil based girl at heart. I really love layering slowly with a strong point. Aside from Poly's I have like 4 sets of some amazing less expensive oil pencils. But I realize that it's easier to make a great budget oil pencil versus a wax one because I cannot find a GOOD budget wax pencil. Once my prismas are almost gone I won't repurchase as much as I love them. I'll get the Caran dache luminance or the Derwent Lightfast. Both oil and wax types have their uses which are completely different. I LOVE using polychromos and prismas together. It's a match made in heaven.

Farber castell seems to be the better choice if you're going for archival (archivable? archivalable?) artwork. Also good for details which I love to do. :D But yeah... price... hmmm.
  • @datosdan431
Prismacolor is definitely my favourite ones!

i’ve never actually tried Prisma Color but, I have the Faber Castell polychromos, and they are AMAZING! They are soft, really pigmented, great at layering and detail, and the list goes on and on. but one thing I really love about them is that they do NOT break easily.
