Speaking is already in our genes. But reading is not. Until about 100 years ago most people didn't do it all. When we read fiction especially, we create new pathways in our brain. Reading 30 pages of fiction every night, gets the pathways thicker and thicker. Our brain needs a workout just like our body.

“One glance at a book and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you” ~ Carl Sagan

My Dad once said to me that you are never wasting your time when you are reading a good book
  • Reading fictional books is like living many lives inside one life. Such richness of experience
  • @samrose3205
I used to read a lot more than I do now. But I have become distracted by my mobile phone a lot more these days and waste so much time on useless information. Time to pick up a book again

I never realized that there is a countdown running while they speak. That must put people under so much pressure

'Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body'

Wow. I feel better about reading fiction again. I had come to believe it was unproductive, except for feeding the imagination and priming the mind for writing. This is great. I'm so glad she gave this talk. I'm going to read more fiction again, and feel great about it!!!! 😄📚
  • Reading fiction helps me to reflect on life and related to others getting to know more about myself

I always have felt a feeling of guilt for not reading books, When I did read books I remember strongly the feelings I felt while reading and how good i felt after finishing reading. I realized how important reading is for the brain and wished I did it much more when growing up.
  • @KimsLantern
Reading forces you to use your imagination. I love that.
  • i grew up in a very strict orthodox christian family, we didn't have television or any digital objects in our home. Reading books was prohibited. My uncle once tore a copy of Harry Potter: Half blood prince because I was reading it sneaking the copy from the school library. Now as I am growing up and learning more i realised they were actually all bound by limited thoughts due to lack of a different perspective and imagination. My life changed after I started reading more and more, even as I do now It sets me completely free of the cage that I still carry around. I am a flawed human who finds solace in Music and Books, And I know I am not the only one. Keep reading humans!
  • I've forced myself to read for 21 followed days when I was teenager and It was the best thing I did... Nowadays I do not stop anymore... I read 1 book per month _
  • I just discovered this video. It's been 3 months since I began to read books. I've finished reading 3 books. As she said, Books help to decrease anxiety, and we can learn from others'/writers perspectives so we can feel the same. As it has its scientific explanation, I can feel the change in what I've become presently.

She has written a book called "The Human Brain". It's beautiful, everyone should read it

I’ve always said I’ve felt like I’ve lived so many lives because of the experiences I got from reading different books. It’s so incredible to hear that this is showing to actually be happening in my brain! I really feel like so many people are missing out on this magical pill. It’s something you can’t get from anything other than fiction.

I'm envious of parents who read to their kids, I only recall one time in my childhood when my mom read to me, I now make sure to read to my girl every night...3 books at least and she loves it 🥰
  • @Shiraz687
A house without a book is like body without a soul.
  • @HettyPatel
I LOVE READING idek why I am here. LOL I don't need no inspiration I just like watching these i guess lol
  • This is why I am so angry that certain books are being banned for the content as a form of sugar coating and canceling culture. Another form of dumbing down society. Reading is life! 📚📚📚📚
