The Texas Bayou is incredible for landscape photography but can be quite challenging to capture. In this video, I share a new technique that allowed me to get sharp and clean long exposures while still in a canoe. I also attempt to teach Gavin Hardcastle a bit of telephoto photography, which went about as well as your would expect. I really hope you enjoy watching it!

Thanks everyone for watching. Do you tend to capture darker more dramatic images or brighter high key scenes? Please let me know below. 👇

Your swamp photos are some of my favorites! So good my man! I appreciate how difficult this video must have been to film - don’t know how you managed to pull it all off!

Amazing images, I’m loving this series. Of course I love the banter between you and Gavin too 😂
  • Watching your videos has opened my eyes to focusing on details instead of just a wide open scene. Thanks for all the tips!! I tend to gravitate more towards darker images for my photos but enjoy seeing brighter ones as well. I really love your bayou photos ♥️

Doesn't matter where you take your images, you are way better than the other ones. Every competition has to have a winner and the winner is, you Michael. How you see and compose your images even your cliches have some spice sprinkled over them which makes them stand out.

Your mastery of the technical and your creative vision leaves me in equal measure inspired and depressed. You apparently can create stunning images anywhere! Thanks for sharing with us.

Wonderful images Michael. I really like the tighter shots where you isolate the branches.
  • @deBurrows
Top quality vblog as usual and very nice pictures aswell.

I love your video and your work. I do a lot of photography in the swamps from a kayak here in Florida and I have a technique that I can use a tripod setup for a long exposures without putting my tripod in the water with certain compositions. Other times I use self made custom tripod extension legs for really deep water. Being in an unsteady boat photographing is a real challenge and it is easy to forget where you are.
  • Fantastic photos, Michael! I had to cancel a trip to photograph cypress in the swamps several years ago but now I’m glad I saw your video first. I probably wouldn’t have thought to use a tripod from a canoe. Thanks for sharing another great video.
  • Your photos are incredibly stunning! I really like the one at 4 min 50 seconds. Personally I prefer the one that have a darker background. The abstract is also one of my favorite! So beautiful!
  • Amazing skills of photography & the way you describe is wonderful! Best of luck! 😍✌️✨

I gravitate to darker moods myself. Looks like I'm off to East Texas in the Near future! Wonderful work!
  • Only recently discovered your channel and your stuff is SO UNIQUE AND AMAZING!! KEEP IT UP MAN

Incredible photos. Amazingly, how nature creates such a beautiful landscapes.
  • Wow, I love the one @ 14:53, the light from upper left to lower right. You asked about high-key or drama, and I think I most often enjoy the dramatic images, but diversity is the spice of life. Safe travels!

I love the water reflection shot too. One of my all time favorites of yours. Great seeing you volly dry humor with Gavin! Haven’t seen this side of you before. You do it well! And make pretty good pictures too! 😉 Thanks Michael!!

It's been a long time since I've been hooked to a YT channel this way - and I just discovered yours an hour ago. I remember you from a nigel dansen critique and admired your humility and insight - but I didn't see your own work until today. The last photographer who resonated with me this way is probably Sam Abell. Your an inspiration man.
