12.5 years is a slap in the face to her friends and family.

I lost my son 11 years and 4 months ago. It is so true that you never "get over" it. You manage (some days better than others) to get through it. But there is forever a hole in my heart in the shape of my son, that can never be healed or filled with anything else. It is there, every minute of every day.

I started tearing up when her friend said she sent that text “you’re not dead are you?” I’ve jokingly sent that text before as well. Can’t imagine how she must have felt when she heard the news. Absolutely devastating.
  • As a teenager, my girlfriend broke up with me via text message and I wanted to have a conversation about it. Not even trying to convince her to stay with her, just have a conversation. She agreed to it, but her parents insisted that we would meet at their home while her parents were at home. At the time, I was a bit upset about their parents, because it felt like they were accusing me of being some sort of psycho who would harm their daughter, after hearing about Ellie's tragic story, I feel a lot differently about it. My post breakup conversation went well and we even managed to stay friends and I certainly did not have any bad intentions, but you never know.

For a father to find his daughter dead let alone murdered…. Sending so so so much love to the family, friends, school community and the community at large. ❤️

That guy really took "If I cannot have you, no one else can" to a whole new level. That was so uncalled for she seemed like a sweet girl. RIP to her.

Being the father of a daughter, I can't imagine what those parents went through. No parent should endure that. My sincere condolences.
  • 12 years, he's got? what an horrifying misjustice for the family

These parents are so brave to speak about this. I don’t think I would be able to do the same.

I've gotta add - the old dude at the beginning said "This is the tragedy of a young man who wasn't mature enough..." Wow. How about this is the tragedy of a young girl's life being taken by someone she trusted?????
  • Losing a child takes an extreme toll on a marriage. It appears that Ellie’s parents have beaten the odds. Hopefully they continue to find comfort in each other and stay strong in their love. RIP, Ellie ❤️

The parents are sublimely classy, decent, and brave. My heart breaks for them.

That sentence is a disgrace. He changed his clothes, proves it was premeditated. Her family and friends are being made to continue to suffer.

The fact I was a troubled teen and KNOW there were many situations I shouldn't have made it out of makes me feel guilty because girls like Ellie always seem to meet the fate that I could have met. Fly high butterfly Ellie ❤️🦋

I love the way when her parents talk about her they both light up, the mom can smile and the father too. This has to be so absolutely so terrible. Waking up everyday and reliving the reality you no longer have the number one thing you love in life. Having to deal with that daily, I cannot imagine. I'm so very sorry to Ellie's parents and friends. She was so absolutely beautiful ❤️.

I think there were red flags. Tom's possessiveness and talk of marriage pointed to a controlling personality which is a red flag for domestic violence homicide.Regarding premeditation...he tried to cover up his crime by preempting conversation about the defensive scratches on his neck claiming them to be self inflicted.Strangulation is deliberate and takes considerable force and time. This is a dangerous young man.
  • The memorial her friends and teacher did for her brought me to tears once again. This story made me cry off and on but the memorial really did me in, and I 100% agree that he should have gotten life!
  • The world lost a great future detective and a sweet horse's friend. Not only did he kill her but left her for her poor loving father to find (felt so much). I hope father and her mother for that matter is doing OK. So sorry for your loss. Thank God you had her and got her for so long. Keep going to his parole hearings and keep fighting for justice. Keep him locked away from other women.
