Gordon Ramsay Cast Iron Steak Recipe Butter-Basted with Garlic Rosemary

Published 2013-05-18
Gordon Ramsay's Cast Iron Steak Recipe is a masterclass in simplicity and flavor. It showcases how a superbly seared steak, with its rich, caramelized crust and tender, juicy interior, can be achieved with just a few key ingredients and techniques. Using a cast iron skillet for even heat distribution, Ramsay enhances the steak's natural flavors with classic seasonings and aromatics like garlic and herbs.

Actual Recipe: hellskitchenrecipes.com/pan-seared-cast-iron-ribey…

Directions:
00:00 Use a hot pan to sear the steak, not boil it; season well with coarse grains of pepper and let the steak reach room temperature before cooking.
00:28 Lay the steak away from you in the pan and sear until it develops a nice color, rendering the fat as well.
01:08 Flip the steak every minute for even cooking, adding unpeeled garlic for flavor.
01:22 Introduce thyme for fragrance and use tactile cues on your hand to gauge doneness from rare to well-done.
01:35 Baste the steak in melted butter, garlic, and thyme for an enriched flavor; start with olive oil to prevent burning.
02:07 Allow the steak to rest off the heat before slicing to retain its juices

How he compliments himself, “beautifully done.” 😂
  • My son asked me how to cast iron his first rib-eye, so we sat down, Googled "Steak" and "Cast Iron" and this video popped up. Your 2.5 minute long video resulted in a BEAUTIFULLY cooked dinner, a very proud Papa, an accomplished teen, and a priceless memory! Thank you Gordan.
  • Why didn't they show the inside of the steak when it was finished? And why do they film these Ramsey videos like a Jason Bourne fight scene?

"You never cut a steak piping hot." -Gordon Ramsay. cuts steak piping hot

Actually, if I'm honest, I would have preferred one camera following the entire process without editing from exact start to finish, not multiple angles and only editing when he talks, if that makes sense.

Who else is a college student watching this at the middle of the night?!!!

I just don't have the thyme to make this kind of steak.

Holy crap just did this, it was my first time ever using a cast iron skillet and first time cooking a steak and it was PERFECT! How can I ever justify buying an over priced steak at a restaurant ever again? This was seriously one of the best steaks I've ever had! Thank you for such a helpful video!

  • Thank you Gordon Ramsay. 7 years later and this video is still helping people. Tried this for the first time today in my cast iron skillet and it came out amazing. Will be learning to cook more throughout the year!

I know no one reads these but I’m grateful for this video! I’m learning to cook and made steak for the first time today and it came out pretty good! I got some grass fed top sirloin and got the pan hot before adding oil in and seared it pretty good on each side and then flipped it every minute, and used the butter and crushed garlic and thyme! And I let it sit for five minutes. I marinated my steak overnight though and it came out great all said and done : )
  • This is the beauty of steak: easy and quick to cook and absolutely delicious.
