Back in the fall of '74, there was a scant handful of weeks you could watch this AND "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" on the the same Friday night. My eight-year-old heart broke when both were canceled within the year. Dang. Keep it going, Dan. Cheers.

September 13th, 1974 - the same night "Kolchak the Nightstalker" premiered.

Ron Harper, 'Planet of the Apes' star, dead at 91 RIP another childhood memory sadden from saying goodbye to another friend from TV history...
  • I loved Planet of the Apes on TV here in England. I was about 10, but couldn't believe there was only 14 episodes. Seems to be the same with the kids TV i watched.

If you look heavily on the POTA series. It’s a pseudo Starsky and Hutch in the apocalyptic future with Gaelen as Huggy Bear.

They rejected two tv scripts from Rod Serling when he did the screenplay for the awesome Planet of the Apes movie. Let that sink in.😂😂😂

Wow, me and 5 friends were part of that re-release of the movies. The local theater played all the movies in chronological order. Great day it was

You give me more blasts from the past than my Vietnam flashbacks.

I remember being allowed to stay up "late" on Sunday nights to watch the TV show. I absolutely loved it and still do. I bought the dvd box set a couple of years ago and couldn't believe there were only 14 episodes! It's such a shame it never got to have any kind of conclusion. It just ended.

Fantastic episode, Dan ! I remember being utterly devastated when POTA was canceled on TV. But once Jaws was released in 75, followed by King Kong in 76, and STAR WARS in 77, the poor POTA series was completely put out of my mind by all the incredible movies.

I've got the TV series set on DVD! Lifelong POTA fan here. There was a show called Hollywood Treasures that profiled people who owned famous movie props. One episode featured a guy in LA (if memory serves) that owned the large Lawgiver statue!

This show, the TV adaptation of Logan's Run, and Kolchak: The Night Stalker have been my late night comfort food since I was an insomniac kid. Those, and Vincent Price movies.

DAMN you're good. You're maybe a year younger than me, as I was 7 when the series was on - I'm turning 57 in 2 months - but what really strikes me about you is that you have such a perfect radio voice. It is extremely pleasant to listen to, plus you really know your stuff. Good job!!
  • I never saw the show when it first aired on CBS. I caught it in syndication. My local station KTLA 5 in Los Angeles had “Planet of the Apes Week” every year where they would run all 5 of those 2 hr edits every weeknight for a week. It was awesome. They also had Clint Eastwood week, Charles Bronson week, Chuck Norris week, and Bruce Lee week. It was the early 80s and life was sweet. Great video. Subbed

Thank God they made the 1968 ape flick with Heston so that all the other water-downed ripoff remakes, sequels, prequels, etc. can be compared to what was a truly great Sci Fi film, the original Planet of the Apes. Forget everything else. Nothing else can stand up to Heston's '68 movie.

Mark Lenard was my father-in-law. Thanks for being so nice and kind to him. Best wishes on your channel. I subscribed!

When this series went off the air my friend and I started a petition to bring it back ...We were 12 and it was 1975 (??). We had about 500 names or so and I sent it in to CBS. They sent me back a letter saying how they were going to cancel it for a wider selection of programming...Or something like that. I still have it somewhere.

Dont forget James Gregory who played General Ursus in Beneath the Planet of the Apes . His deep gravelly voice made Ursus evem more intimidating . Alot of people will remember him for playing Inspector Frank Luger on Barney Miller.

I was sad upon hearing the news of Ron Harper passing, I really like him from this classic Planet Of The Apes TV Series and that I still have my DVD copy of the series. Rest In Heaven Ron Harper. . 💐😭
