Fairytales are something we’ve all grown up with… telling stories of fantastical kingdoms with often dark undertones… but, while most of them were created for entertainment, or to teach morals to children, many of the settings are, surprisingly, far more realistic. Most of the legends originated in Europe where, at the time, they were seen as fables based in real world places, and many of the villages that inspired these environments can still be seen today. It's time to grab your glass slippers, and be very wary of anyone offering you apples, or who live in gingerbread houses… as we take a tour of the 15 most gorgeous European Fairytale Towns.

  • As an Irish, having traveled all about Europe, Slovenia is so underrated! Stunning !
  • As an Australian I absolutely agree that Slovenia is naturally beautiful and unspoilt. It's Europe's little secret without hordes of tourists. Simply stunning!

I just love this...yes, I poured a glass of wine, opened to full screen and simply sat back and enjoyed seeing my "homeland" . Thank you, brings tears to my eyes and memories to my heart.

I've been to Europe several times and each time we visit the main cities in the given country (next month we're going to Budapest, Vienna, and Prague, for example). But this makes me want to visit these charming little towns.

More of these travel videos please. This was a great idea
  • This was such a fantastic tour. I found myself smiling the whole time. I tried picking a favourite but its impossible. I have been to Holland and Belgium and it really feels like your going back into time. These little villages are filled with feelings of magic and wonderment. You can't help but feel like there is a dragon always guarding the little town.......Great video, great narrative. I think this is the best one you have done so far, in my opinion. Really loved it. Thanks and keep them coming. :o)

I lived in Mittenwald for nearly 30 years. Very traditional. Worth a visit.

When Carcassonne in France is not on the list, the list is incomplete. This is truly a place where time stood still and is even on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. It has fairytale written all over it.
