Is the Best Mid-Range Smartphone From 2021 Still Usable in 2024?

Published 2024-06-21
A mid-range smartphone is a term used to describe a phone that offers a balance between affordability and performance. It’s not as high-end as flagship models, which have the latest and greatest features, nor is it as basic as budget phones, which are the most cost-effective options.

But the second-hand market is not to be underestimated. I've been using a Galaxy A52s 5G as a second phone for the past few years. An excellent mid-range model from 2021. But is it still relevant by mid-2024? If you are interested, I will tell you in the next few minutes.

A52s user since early 2022. Samsung had already released the Android 12 update by then so I had OneUI 4.0 at day 1. Phone still works perfectly fine over two years later but I believe it performed best with the OneUI 5.1 update. OneUI 6.1 still hasn't fixed the implementation of the new default font across all apps while borking the routine I set that would automatically deactivate Bluetooth once the connected device is turned off. Despite the faults, I could see using my A52s for at least two more years.
