Shireen Abu Akleh's last report marks 74 years of Nakba

Published 2022-05-16
In the last report filed before she was killed by Israeli forces,
Shireen exposed the realities of Israeli occupation, and told the stories of Palestinians who lost their homeland - 74 years on.
The report, which was filmed two days before her execution, was scheduled to air for the 74th commemorations of the Nakba on May 15.
The video features interviews with a survivor of the Nakba and scenes filmed in the ruins of his Palestinian village, on whose ruins a forest now grows.
The video concludes with a reminder that Israeli attempts to dispossess Palestinians and displace them forcibly are ongoing.

Watching this neo colonialism as an Irish man is very hard to watch. All the Palestinian evictions.. 700K Palestinian are displaced today and in the 1840s ireland had 1.2 million. The Apartheid state that Israel has created.. is exactly how 10% of Ireland’s british Protestant class ruled the island of ireland for centuries.. and in the 1960s.. the Irish were second class citizens in a northern Irish state designated for British majority. The brutal killings and executions all throughout Palestine are like what Israelis are doing remind us when Britain burned down Cork City, open fired in Dublin, Derry and Belfast. and even open fired on a GAA football match. Palestine deserves the rights and sovereignty that we have. Simply unacceptable in these modern times.

In her memory, I hope we can all continue her work, individually, making others aware of the ongoing Nakba, keeping it in the headlines, so that those who don't know and those who choose not to see, will know and will see. And follow up with action.
