LEGO Island 2 in VR!

Published 2024-04-09
Welcome to LEGO Island 2 in Virtual Reality/360! This has been the biggest project I've ever done on this channel. It took a lot of time and effort but I'm really proud of it.

The project started of by taking a look at my original LEGO Island VR video. I noticed that a lot of you liked the search element within the video. So I thought about how we could use that again in this video. At first the idea was to collect Constructopedia pages. But it didn't really make sense to collect the pages while the buildings are all there. So I changed that idea to looking for Brickster-bots around the island. And this time, I hid them all a bit better. I thought in the original video it was a bit too easy to find the helicopter pieces.

With those ideas figured out: it was time to make a plan on how we would travel through the island. Something unique about LEGO Island 2 is the train. I really wanted to include that in the experience. Skateboarding had to be there as well, of course. Then with the help of Necromaticon and MrTheMarkoman we made a list of all the buildings and characters we needed for the island. Once those were ready, it was time to decorate the island. I really like the original cutscene that plays when you open the game. So I tried to give this video a similar feel with the plants, palm trees and fence pieces. Also the stacks of 2x2 plates were included.

Then it was time for the animation. I put characters near the buildings they are associated with. So Dr. Clickit is walking around the hospital and the Infomaniac is on his way to the Information Center for example. Then I animated the cars driving around the island. In the original cutscene Baron Flambo's car is also seen. So I put it in there as well.

When everything was done I started the final render, which took around 5 days. After that the sound design had to be done and then the video was finished. This was definitely the biggest project I've done so far. So I hope you all like it!

Sets featured in the video:
6479 - Emergency Response Center
6456 - Mission Control
6332 - Command Post Central
6666 - Ambulance
7750 - Steam Engine (Green)

  • For all LI2's faults, I'm still fond of the game and its environs, especially after modding it to cut down the load times. Thank you for letting me revisit it, AND RIDE THE TRAIN! That was fun. (I was rather distracted by everything this one, so only spotted two bots and no Brickster. I'm gonna need to rewind...)

I have so much nostalgia for this game. Thank you!!!

I love it. It feels really lived in. The colourchanged policecar, the flying helicopters, the spaceshuttle at the end.. Love it! I hope this VR series will live on.

This is awesome! I have so much nostalgia for Lego Island 2 despite it not being as well received as the first. You remade the island perfectly. I love all the references too. The "My best!" line, the sequence at 1:58 with Papa Bricolini and Pepper's rail grind just like the game's intro, and I saw Baron Flambo again, showing up just because he can :D Love it! I think I counted like 4 Brickster bots, and I saw the Brickster pop up behind the bridge around 3:00. I'm assuming the countdown is referencing when they go to space? I'm sure there's more stuff in the video that I missed, you always fill these things with easter eggs. Anyway, this one came out really good!
  • Man I love these videos! Takes me back into the classic LEGO Media world. I was able to spot 8 Brickster Bots so far. I'll drop the locations in the Replies. My favorite part was the references to Project Island and Manic Miners! Here's hoping that Project Island will be as good as Manic Miners! It's amazing to look at fan projects like your videos and those games; funny thing is the graphic quality is exactly what I imagined as a child. It's weird to go back and see the original graphics and realize how much my mind filled in!

This is definitely not how it looked, but is exactly how I remember it
  • You're incredible, I haven't seen one bricksterbot yet but I'll get them. This is an ingenious way to generate more views and you've recreated the island perfectly, down to the tiniest 1X1 tile. Keep up the good work, I'm rooting for you :)
  • I've never wanted a VR headset before, that was before I knew this existed

Thank you so much for this, it was a nostalgia-trip since LI2 was my favorite and go-to Lego game from back then.
