In this video we tackle the famous Black Bear Pass near Telluride Colorado. But shortly after coming down past the sheer cliff and waterfall, things take a turn for the worse when a freak hail storm hits the mountain. What comes next is flash floods, mudslides, and landslides that eventually trap us from escaping. There were many hikers on the trail as well and 911 was called and search and rescue was sent out along with road crews to help recover missing and or hypothermic hikers and rock climbers who were in the area. A bulldozer was needed to reopen the road before we could get out. At least 1 rock climber who was said to have started the Via Ferrata climb just before the storm and was reported missing, his whereabouts are still unclear: denver.cbslocal.com/2020/07/27/telluride-mudslide-…

I remember this day, I was one of the Sheriffs there at the end of your video! No loss of life and no injuries! However it was a long day for everyone lol. Good video, nice to see it from the other perspective.

I live in Colorado. Seen people play up situations to get likes. This is the real deal. Scary as hell. Flash floods are no joke. Especially on this pass. Glad you guys are ok.

I bet Matt's Off Road Recovery would have come out to help.
  • This is by far one of the BEST Videos I ever saw showing What God created in this Country. Thank You for the slow footage. Just Gorgeous Countryside!!
  • This is the most impressive 4x4 trip I've seen in my life, greetings from Chile
  • Celebrating 40 years me and the wife, spent most doing some of the same kind of outdoor 4 wheel Activities. Love that this is still alive with you young folks. Still enjoy these trips and my collection depending on the road I'm traveling, even at 60 yrs old.
  • I’m officially done with Hollywood this is what I need, it has drama, suspense and romance! Congrats on your anniversary!
  • @huskertex
I’ve already done Black Bear once and thought it would be “fun” to do it in the rain someday. Not anymore. Thanks for the unintentional PSA. Glad you are okay. ✌🏻

I haven't seen landscapes like those high pass areas since my husband and I drove over Rollins Pass in the 1980s. We scattered ashes up there, and now it's not open all the way across anymore--couldn't have worked out better for our purposes. Now every thought of our beloved son is associated with that beauty.

I started 4-wheeling in 1975. Now, I have a Motorhome. No more off road, unfortunately. I enjoy watch you cammers wheeelin' and cammin'. At least I ca watch.
  • @RichGurska
The best Back Bear Pass video I've ever seen
  • @markreetz1001
I've watched maybe a half dozen Black Bear Pass videos, but this was the first one that frightened me at least a little. At first the wet trail bothered me, then the debris started crashing by! Glad you made it through. Wow!
  • @herbmanning8348
Great video. You learned a valuable lesson. In the mountains, when you see those dark clouds forming, you don't dilly-dally. You get your butt down!
  • @bh1567
This is top 5 craziest off road trip I've ever watched. Better than any movie film. Props!
  • @TheDylanPlayer14
I can imagine him falling off the mountain, yelling into the walkie talkie "I'm crashing because I was driving with one haaaaaaaaa...."

I lived in Telluride back in the late 70’s and know this pass well. The only time I traveled up against the one way was to rescue a friend who thought his 4 wheel drive could make the climb. This is the point; traversing this pass without catastrophic consequences is a combination of the right vehicle, the proper experience and weather conditions. Leave one of these essentials out and only luck will get you down.
