The Rise and Fall of Mr. Kennedy in WWE

Published 2024-05-26
Mr. Kennedy was once tipped to be a future WWE main event heel. Kennedy came so close to winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and being revealed as the long lost son of Vince McMahon, but then it all slipped away. Mr. Kennedy was prone to injury, got involved in a scandal, and allegedly injured two of WWE's top superstars, including a botch during a match with Randy Orton, leading to his eventual release.

Getting injured at the worst possible time and being his own worst enemy is what screwed Mr Kennedy over.

Before LA Knight, there was Mmisteerrrrrr Kennedyyyyy, Kennedyy. 🎙

Kennedy was a Star in the making for WWE, but its Sad He Lost all his momentum as a Star and Got Politcked and Injured and Fired And Never Forget, he was supposed to Vince's Illegitimate Son and was supposed to be the one that Killed Vince in that Limo Explosion
  • I really liked Kennedy's work: moving him to Raw, having him lose the briefcase to Edge, injuries, politics & him speaking well of Benoit all hurt. Kennedy got in trouble too for getting tips from Austin & incorporating it hurt him too. Why would WWE/Vince be against Austin, one of the biggest names ever, giving advice. The Smackdown roster guys really liked him too especially the big names

I remember Mr Kennedy was a beast he was one of my favorites in the ruthless aggression era. I feel like if the doctors didn’t miss diagnosed his injury he would have token edges position and be where edge is at right now.

If you botched Orton in those days, it was a wrap. Took Kofi around a decade to get back into the title scene after that. And Kennedy was a goner altogether. The injuries were on him. And perhaps it was a sign that he needed to clean up his ring work on all fronts.

I admire the restraint of not saying Kennedy twice....Kennedy
  • Him getting injured just before they put the belt on him made them hesitant about making him a main event guy after that. Then obviously he gave Orton a stinger in a match and then he was pretty much done from there

How come only mr Kennedy got suspended when there's a whole list of others who purchased steroids as well like Randy?
  • Mr Kennedy’s Demise in the WWE was a Heartbreaker for Me. 🤦🏿‍♂️. 🎙

Don’t know how your able to produce and upload high quality content so quickly, I would burn out at the speed of light having such a workload lol. Great video as always mate.

When Kennedy lost the briefcase to Edge, I thought they were going to turn Kennedy face. They had the perfect case for a feud between them since Edge went to Smackdown and Kennedy was a SD talent. Instead? The drafted Kennedy to RAW like a week or so later and doesn’t even try to get revenge on Edge. Even worse? Edge gets injured a month later, which would have been the perfect time to give the WHC to Kennedy in the Battle Royale. Instead they gave it to The Great Khali! People argued that they couldn’t because Kennedy was on RAW. A moot argument because Khali was on RAW when he went into that BR! Edge was also on RAW when he stole Kennedy’s case. That was the real beginning of the end for Mr. Kennedy.

He could’ve been main event big. There was a time where there was a huge lack star power, at around the time Miz was being pushed. He and MVP should’ve been the ones filling in those gaps.
  • @TruthBomber73
Sure doesn't feel like 15 years since his last match with the company.
  • @mistasofly
MITB winners have a year to cash it in. Why take the briefcase from him so quickly just because he going to be hurt a few months? They could have had Edge beat Taker for the title WITHOUT the briefcase. Then at some point have Kennedy cash it in on Edge, or whoever held the title when he came back.
  • Never understood why it didn't work, the guy had a great entrance, charisma, and good ring skills. Politics play a big part at WWE. I feel like he could have become bigger than The Miz, have a world championship run,and in the future and WWE heavywheight Heel run.

Just like most Ruthless Aggression wrestlers (outside of Orton, Cena, and Batista), not every wrestler can be a success. You got some nobodies like Heidenreich, Luther Reigns, any of the day job gimmicks from WWE ECW, I can go on and on. I think you should make a list of the most forgotten Ruthless Aggression wrestlers.

Cena & Orton made sure Kennedy never threated their top spots
