Interesting! I do believe that holding a shell does cause the timer to slow down, so the credibility of the NSMBU time is questionable.

I tried to see if you could hit a Koopa from below in 3D World. Dude just disintegrates.

Due to limited processing power, the in-game timer and, well, everything else, moves faster when nothing else is moving. When a lot of things, like the player and some enemies, are moving, the timer (and whole game world) slows down. That is the reason for the discrepancies.

I’d like to see more content like this, comparing random values from different Mario games. Maybe stuff like how much time/space it takes Mario to stop after a run, how much coyote time each game gives you, etc.
