BONUS: If you fish with a BAIT LAUNCHER and you're looking for alternatives to freezing your entire bait rig in ice - you NEED TO WATCH this video:    • BEFORE YOU FREEZE Your Bait Mold, WAT...   ... In this video, we experiment with a few different methods to load and shoot your COMPRESSED AIR BAIT LAUNCHER WITHOUT FREEZING the entire bait rig!

BONUS X2: If you're also interested in getting the MAXIMUM DISTANCE out of your bait cannon - check out this video:    • DOES BARREL LENGTH MATTER for a Bait ...   ... We tested the effects of barrel length on distance for an air bait cannon, and we show you how to calculate the (approximate) optimal barrel length for your bait cannon! Enjoy!
*****************************************

Actual performance (distance) will always vary based on air chamber size, air pressure (psi) in the air chamber, weight of the bait rig, wind and ambient conditions. Even with precautions, this stuff can get dangerous, so, build and use at your own risk! You need to use pressurized pvc and we recommend schedule 80. Be safe and have fun!

**************Parts and materials (all as shown in this video, though we still recommend schedule 80 pvc):
(1) 4" pvc end cap (schedule 40; air chamber cap)
(1) 16" x 4" diameter pvc pipe (schedule 40; air chamber)
(1) 4" to 2" diameter pvc step-down connector / reducer coupling (schedule 40)
(1) 4" x 2" diameter pipe (schedule 40; connects air chamber to 2” step down connector / reducer coupling)
(1) 2" to 1.5" diameter pvc step-down connector / reducer coupling (schedule 40)
(1) 4" x 1.5" diameter pipe (schedule 40; connects ball valve to 2” step down connector / reducer coupling)
(1) 1.5" diameter pvc ball valve (schedule 40; trigger mechanism)
(1) 5' x 1.5" diameter pvc pipe (schedule 40; barrel)

purple PVC primer
heavy duty PVC cement
metal clamp in air valve (TR416 .453" diameter - can be found on Amazon at www.amazon.com/dp/B07HF31DR5?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_…)
13/32" drill bit
tape measure
pencil
chop saw or hack saw
extension cord
whatever paint / spray paint you want for your own design
bicycle pump or other air pump to fill the air chamber (make sure you have a pressure gauge to measure how much air you're inserting!)
pliers
drill

  • I need one of these in my life! Thanks for sharing the process on how to build one!

Add a pressure gauge. Then use a co² bike tire filler. Probably want the 25g co² cartridges, but experiment to see what brings you up to pressure without waste. No more pumping. 😁 Warning ⚠️ ☠️!! Fill slowly 🐌!! You don't want to freeze the PVC, and make it brittle. You could also use a PCP air tank from paint ball. With the regulator, it would charge the system to the desired PSI, and no more. They're essentially a tiny scuba tank, various sizes.

Best bait cannon builder we know! Thanks! Keep killin' it!

Dewalt 60v 2 gallon air compressor is you life saver. I drag mine deep in the woods to build deer stands. Nice and light

You can also build these using a sprinkler valve tapped with a air blaster gun, as your trigger which moves the diaphram inside the valve causing the chamber to release the air.
  • You should try installing a handle on the ball value to release the air faster for more distance. By the way I used your videos to make my cannon thanks for the reference. But i did screw the barrel into the ball valve.

I've build these 20 years ago as tennis ball launcher. Word to the wise, SCH 40 is much safer repeated use if you stay within 100-120 psi MAX. This is why that bait cannon was ultimately released using a metal chamber.
  • Can u teach us on the rigs to connect the main line n mold bait?
  • Milwaukee m12 air compressor would fill you to 120 in minutes multiple times. Light and easy to carry

So mr woods to table can I make a suggestion it’ll increase your chances of landing a fish when you use your bait cannon whenever you got leftover bait fish frames fish guns anything really you wanna put it all in a. Big blender and maybe even mix in a little fish oil too then with that super blended stuff you use that in place of water for your bait mold as when it melts it creates a big oily smelly slick in the water that attracts all the fish to your main bait
  • What would happen if you use a bigger barrel? I know Chillicothe changes but what if you also increase the tank
  • @rayray3429
Jus 3:40 jus built mine n trying it out tonite at the lake lol

Hi there . I love your design and are keen to have a crack at building one but I'm in New Zealand so our measurements are slightly different. I have a question around your barrel . It's only 1.5 inches in diameter right and 2/3 feet long, right? Why so thin? 1.5 is tiny . Does the thinner barrel give you further distance or is it just to house the bait assembly? Thanks.
