My Worst Hardcore RLCraft Fail

Published 2022-02-11
This is by far, my worst failure in Hardcore RLCraft. I had survived for 61 days in RLCraft, then gloated that I was gonna make it to Winter. Yeah you can guess what happened. Enjoy my pain and suffering.

  • The same damn thing happened to me on my hardcore world day 42. I saw chickens up top of a village, and I didn't see the goddamn gap. I wanted to start my chicken farm for arrows, and instead I ran straight into a chasm. Now I rush for feather falling boots and fall damage reduction in my skills. Falling to your death at a random abyssal hole is the worst thing possible, but it seems like it's more common now with villages happily spawning inside of mountains and stuff. The village that killed me was spawned onto some dirt blocks kind of inside and kind of next to a canyon with the red cobblestone. Out of all of the air elementals and the dragon up there that you think would do me in, I just died to a random chasm. I had to go to that village, since the desert doesn't spawn chickens, and my 32 eggs failed me. It was literally right by the desert, so I got really lucky... or so I thought... I've been testing it, and with no extra hearts, you need feather falling 3, and 2-3 points in fall damage reduction in order to survive a decent fall like that. With more hearts, you could probably get by with just feather falling 2 and 2-3 points in fall reduction. I think it's 10% damage reduction per skill point, and like 5-8% damage reduction per feather falling level. 54% damage reduction at feather falling 3 with 3 levels? I tested it with feather falling 3 and 2 levels in the skill, and I sometimes still died when I thought I shouldn't have, but with feather falling 2 and 3 levels in the skill, I lived. That's why I think the skill levels mean more than feather falling levels. I'd say feather falling is about as important as a helmet with prot 4, because although it's rare as hell, that wasn't the first time I've fallen to my death by not looking before I leapt in a hardcore run. You just don't expect a random chasm to be near a village... and it's always a random high fall that kills me. If you landed on that building's roof, then you might have survived. It helps to hold a water bucket near ledges. It's saved me many times, but in situations like this, it can happen to anyone. I feel worse falling to my death in hardcore than dying to the fire damage glitch, a random gorgon spawner in a doomlike dungeon, or the shark tornado glitch that yeeted me through my solid house brick wall and murdered me. I still don't know how it did that.
