Alongside Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Insomniac has updated the original Marvel's Spider-Man to run on PlayStation 5. In this detailed analysis, John Linneman compares Spider-Man on PS5 to the PS4 Pro version, finding a range of improvements. Plus he takes a closer look at the new ray traced performance mode, which delivers 60fps gaming with RT on top. How does it work and how did Insomniac deliver it?

The way he jumps off the rooftop in 60fps with ray tracing is full of the exaggerated swagger of Insomniac Games

does anyone ever look reflections irl and think "damn thats some good ray tracing"

The fact that the "worst case" for DRS is 1080p really says something about how well optimised this is.

Sony's in house dev teams are some of the best.

6:34 I’m imaging everyone getting their assignments at Insomniac and the artist that excitedly opens their email, only to read “update roof garbage textures”...

I have 1080p tv and Performance RT is perfect for me. No compromise on 60fps. Imsomniac listened to their fans. I hope more devs will follow this suit and provide options.

Insomniac set the bar high and early and they said they barely scratched the power of the PlayStation 5. The Spider-Man sequel is going to blow us away.

60fps RT is possible on consoles, this is great for the future!
  • @ArchHippy
So they essentially added exactly what I was begging for in the comments of the last video you did about this. I can't praise them enough for this.

Ray Tracing reflections at 60 fps on a console. Man, that's really impressive, even more considering that high end PCs struggle to achieve that. Even if it's at a lower resolution and the reflections are not ultra sharp the visual effect is gorgeous and adds so much more depth to the gameplay. Insomniac proving this is possible gets me more excited about this gen.

I cannot wait for Ratchet and Clank assuming it's being built with RT Performance Mode in mind.

Can’t wait to see what Insomniac can pull off with a proper full-on PS5 title, instead of cross-gen.

The Spiderman Remaster and Miles Morales games are some of the best looking games I've played. RT makes it just a cut above and really makes it stand out vs the original. Not sure how they pulled off such a sharp image not being 4K but I can't tell as it looks amazing and clean on my TV. Kudos to the entire Insomniac team!
